Job summary

A reputable educational support organization is seeking caring individuals to support pupils with autism in Godalming. The role involves providing tailored education and personal care for children aged 4-19, promoting their independence and social skills. Successful applicants will benefit from a comprehensive training program, potential career progression without QTS, and a £1000 joining bonus. This part-time position offers evenings and weekends off, alongside 44 days of holiday and free parking.

Qualifications

  • Professional, personal or voluntary experience of working with children and disabilities.
  • Comfortable working with children who exhibit challenging behaviour.
  • Comfortable supporting others with personal/intimate care where required.

Responsibilities

  • Providing teaching and support to pupils with autism, following individualised curriculums.
  • Planning, preparing and delivering lessons and activities, focusing largely on life skills.
  • Monitoring pupil progress, ensuring teaching is appropriate and effective for pupil needs.

Your role would include:
  • Providing teaching and support to pupils with autism, following individualised curriculums
  • Planning, preparing and delivering lessons and activities, focusing largely on life skills
  • Supporting pupils' participation in trips, applying theory-based learning to practice
  • Providing behaviourally based support to reduce behaviours that impact quality of life
  • Providing personal care, encouraging pupils to maintain acceptable levels of hygiene (toileting, feeding)
  • Monitoring pupil progress, ensuring teaching is appropriate and effective for pupil needs
  • Assisting with breaktime duties including playground support and snack time
Skills and capabilities:
  • Minimum Grade C/4 or equivalent, in English Language & Maths
  • Professional, personal or voluntary experience of working with children and disabilities
  • Comfortable working with children who exhibit challenging behaviour
  • Comfortable supporting others with personal/intimate care where required
  • Ability to keep calm in high pressure situation
  • Own means of transport, due to location desirable
