Job summary

A respected primary school in Camberley is seeking a Teaching Assistant to provide support for a child with autism in Year 1. This is a temporary role, offering 15 term-time hours per week, starting in January 2026. The ideal candidate will have experience with children with autism and hold Level 2/3 NVQ Teaching Assistant qualifications. You will work in a friendly and supportive environment, contributing positively to the child's progress and wellbeing.

Job description
Job Overview

High View Primary is looking to appoint a Teaching Assistant to support a child with autism in Year 1 who is verbal and able to access the Year 1 environment. This position is temporary as it is linked to funding so the post will end when either the child leaves the school or if funding is withdrawn. The hours are 8.45-11.45 Monday to Friday (15 hours per week) term time plus INSET days to start January 2026.

Job Requirements
  • Is able to form good relationships with children and work in partnerships with parents, colleagues and other professionals
  • Must have experience of working with children with autistic spectrum conditions (this could be in a mainstream or special needs school)
  • Able to provide focused one to one support to record children's progress and achievements
  • An excellent communicator who works well in a team
  • Level 2/3 NVQ Teaching Assistant or equivalent and competent in IT

The Right Candidate Will Have
  • GCSE English and Maths at grade C or above
  • NVQ 2 or 3 or above in Teaching and Learning Support, Childcare Learning and Development or Teaching Assistant or other equivalent qualification
  • Previous experience working with children with autism
  • Proven ability to work on their own initiative
  • A high level of communication skills and the ability to relate positively to children and adults
  • The ability to use relevant technology/equipment
  • A can-do attitude
  • A commitment to the happiness, well-being, self-esteem and progress of everyone at the school
