A forward‑thinking Primary School in Muswell Hill (Haringey/Bounds Green border) is urgently recruiting a high‑level SEN Teaching Assistant to support pupils with complex behavioural and emotional needs. Due to the level of need in the provision, the SENCO is only seeking an SEN Teaching Assistant with significant, proven experience – someone who can hit the ground running from day one.

This SEN Teaching Assistant role involves working with children who require constant structure, calm, therapeutic language, and expert de‑escalation strategies. Many pupils have experienced trauma and require a highly skilled SEN Teaching Assistant who understands behaviour as communication and can implement consistent, sensitive, trauma‑informed responses. Parents are heavily involved and have high expectations, meaning the successful SEN Teaching Assistant must demonstrate professionalism, confidence, and strong communication skills.

Responsibilities of the SEN Teaching Assistant:
  • Supporting pupils with severe behavioural and emotional needs
  • Delivering trauma‑informed interventions and language
  • Using structured routines, sensory breaks, and therapeutic strategies
  • Working collaboratively with senior leaders and external agencies
  • Recording behaviour incidents accurately and professionally
  • Managing high‑risk situations confidently and safely
Requirements for the SEN Teaching Assistant role:
  • Extensive SEN and behaviour experience
  • Trauma‑informed/therapeutic behaviour training
  • Team Teach or MAPA (highly desirable)
  • Ability to maintain authority while being warm and child‑centred
  • Confidence to work with demanding parents
  • Excellent resilience and emotional regulation
