Job summary

Walliscote Primary School in Weston-Super-Mare is seeking a capable Teaching Assistant to support learning across year groups during term time. This permanent role is 30 hours per week, from 8.30am to 3.30pm with a 15‑minute break and a 45‑minute lunch, starting 2 November 2026.

The ideal candidate will hold an NVQ/VRQ Level 3 TA qualification and have some knowledge of SEND/ALN, including emotional needs of children with autism, ADHD and attachment issues.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of SEND/ALN and supporting pupils with diverse needs.

Responsibilities

  • Setting up equipment and preparing the classroom for lessons, tidying up and helping with displays.
  • Providing support to pupils who need extra help, including one-to-one and small group work.
  • Delivering targeted interventions to help pupils make rapid progress.
  • Assisting the teacher with marking and record-keeping.
  • Covering the class during teacher absence (planned and reactive).
  • Supporting pupils’ pastoral needs and assisting with school trips and events.

You will be able to provide varying levels of individual attention, reassurance and support with learning tasks as appropriate to children’s individual needs.As a TA, every day is different and you will enjoy variety and a challenge. As a TA, you will be:• Setting up equipment and helping to prepare the classroom for lessons, tidying up afterwards and helping with displays.• Providing support to children who need additional help with their work.
