Job summary

Southern Cross School, part of Ambition Community Trust, is seeking an experienced Teaching Assistant to join a committed and inclusive team. The role focuses on supporting disengaged pupils, mentoring in 1:1 or group settings, and helping learners engage with topics leading toward educational pathways.

You will work with teachers to create resources, maintain a safe learning environment, and build strong relationships with pupils and families.

Qualifications

Job description

At Southern Cross School, part of Ambition Community Trust, we are seeking an experienced Teaching Assistants to join our committed and relationally inclusive team.

We are recruiting for experienced Teaching Assistants who excel as part of a team and has an understanding of a range of teaching, learning and behaviour regulation strategies. The successful candidate will join an enthusiastic and welcoming team and will join us in motivating students to strive for success while maintaining a healthy learning environment for all children within the school.

A Pathways Teaching assistant (Keyworker/Mentor), includes supporting disengaged pupils in the community, or at home, within the environment that best supports their educational needs. This will also include working together in partnership with school, families, and agencies to overcome pupils' barriers to learn.

The main focus is to develop relationships with our most hard to reach young people, with a focus to engage them initially in a topic of interest and then onto educational pathways when they are ready such as PSHE, Sports, Arts and Creativity. The curriculum follows ASDAN for KS3 and BTECH for KS4 and you will be fully supported and trained to deliver key sessions.

In accordance with the ACT Employee Contract, your full-time equivalent (FTE) appointment is based on 36 hours per week; however, you will only be required to work, and will be paid for, 35 hours per week.

Please note this is a driving role, and you will need a vehicle, a drivers license and business insurance to fulfil the role.

This role will involve:

• Working with a wide range of class teachers to deliver excellent teaching and learning.

The right candidate will:

• Be educated to National Qualifications Framework Level 3 standard, e.g. NVQ 3, A/AS levels or equivalent.
• Have a proven ability to work on their own initiative.
• Have a high level of communication skills and the ability to relate positively to children and adults.
• Excel in using relevant technology/equipment.
• Bring a can-do attitude to the role.
• Be committed to the happiness well-being, self-esteem and progress of everyone at the school.

Payroll (If selected):

1. Staff members receive their salary on the 15th of each month, covering the hours worked during that month.
2. For full time staff members, in accordance with the ACT Employee Contract, the full-time equivalent (FTE) hours will 36 hours per week. However, full time staff will only required to work—and will be paid for—35 hours per week.
