Teaching Assistant - SEMH School

Location: Longsight, Manchester

Contract: Temporary to Permanent | Full-time | Term-time only

Simply Education are proud to be working with a specialist SEMH school in Longsight, supporting children and young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs. About the Role

This is not your average Teaching Assistant role – it’s a chance to be a positive role model, calm presence, and consistent support for pupils who need it ATM most.

You’ll work closely with pupils who may display challenging behaviour, helping them navigate their emotions, build resilience, and access learning in a way that works for them. Every day is different, fast‑paced, and genuinely rewarding.

This temporary to permanent opportunity is ideal for someone who thrives on challenge, values relationships, and believes in second chances.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Supporting pupils 1:1 and in small groups
  • Using recognised de‑escalation strategies to manage challenging behaviour
  • Assisting with learning activities across the curriculum
  • Building positive, trusting mno relationships with pupils
  • Working collaboratively with teachers, SEN staff, and external professionals
  • Helping to maintain a calm, safe, and supportive learning environment
  • Playing a key role in promoting positive behaviour, emotional wellbeing, and personal development across the school
Essential Requirements

You must hold current training in de‑escalation and behaviour management including at least one of the following:

  • Team Teach
  • MAPA / Skip Training
  • PRICE Training
The Ideal Candidate

You’re calm under pressure, resilient, and genuinely passionate about supporting vulnerable young people. You may come from a background in:

  • SEMH or SEND education
  • Youth work or mentoring
  • Care or behaviour support

Most importantly, you bring patience, empathy, and consistency and the belief that every young person can succeed with the right support.
