Can you collaborate smoothly with teaching staff to guide small booster groups and maintain a structured, reassuring atmosphere?

Are you looking to step into a secure, full-time teaching assistant position with an immediate start at a thriving primary school?

Randstad Education has partnered with an established Hitchin primary school to appoint a caring and proactive Teaching Assistant on a long-term, full-time contract beginning immediately. Working across KS1 and KS2 cohorts, the school offers an inclusive, pupil‑centred environment where personal growth and core learning go hand in hand. We want a dependable team member ready to provide high‑quality instructional support, assist children with varied learning profiles, and contribute to a happy, flourishing school community.

Core Duties
  • Booster Group Delivery: Run focused group sessions in guided reading, spelling, phonics, and foundational maths to help children achieve their individual learning targets.
  • Individual Inclusion Support: Provide targeted, one-to-one assistance to pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) or English as an Additional Language (EAL), keeping learning accessible and engaging.
  • Learning Environment Readiness: Assist in laying out practical equipment, organising visual aids, and maintaining an orderly, safe, and stimulating classroom setup.
  • Constructive Behaviour Guidance: Encourage high expectations of behaviour across lessons, corridor transitions, and playtime in line with school-wide routines.
  • Pupil Progress Logging: Keep track of student engagement and milestones, passing along clear and practical observations to the class teacher and SENCO.
  • Pastoral Encouragement: Serve as an approachable, steady role model who helps children navigate challenges, develop independence, and build healthy peer relationships.
Candidate Profile
  • Background & Credentials: Classroom experience supporting primary-aged children (or relevant backgrounds in nursery, after-school, or youth work) or a Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant qualification is preferred.
  • Foundational Competencies: Sound literacy and numeracy skills, clear spoken English, and an understanding of how to break down basic curriculum concepts.
  • Character & Demeanour: A calm, adaptable, and emotionally resilient attitude capable of connecting with children from diverse backgrounds.
  • Collaborative Mindset: A proactive willingness to pitch in with daily school activities, collaborate with colleagues, and uphold rigorous safeguarding standards.
  • Vetting Requirements: Current Enhanced Child Workforce DBS registered on the Update Service (or readiness to apply for one with Randstad).
