Job Vacancy: Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO)

Location: British Creative Institute, Elmore Green Road, Walsall, WS3 2QW

Contract Type: 12-Week Contract Leading to Permanent (Urgent Start Required)

The British Creative Institute (BCI)—a specialist post-16 provider for learners with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)—is urgently seeking a committed and knowledgeable SENCO to join our inclusive, creative, and innovative learning community. This role begins with a 12-week contract and offers the opportunity to secure a permanent position following a successful 6-month probation period.

Role Overview

The SENCO will play a pivotal role in ensuring that learners with SEND receive high-quality, personalised support that enables them to thrive academically, creatively, and personally. You will work closely with staff, students, and families to uphold BCI’s commitment to inclusive education.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead on the development, implementation, and monitoring of SEND provision across the institution.
  • Create and review individualised learning plans and ensure strategies are effectively embedded in classroom practice.
  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff to ensure curriculum differentiation and inclusive teaching approaches.
  • Monitor and track student progress, maintaining accurate and detailed SEND records.
  • Coordinate and deliver targeted interventions, including one-to-one or small-group support.
  • Liaise with parents, external agencies, and internal teams to build strong and effective support networks.
  • Provide guidance, training, and support to teaching and support staff to promote best practice in SEND.
  • (Optional but beneficial) Integrate Adobe Creative Media tools into learning for SEND students where appropriate.
Essential Criteria
  • Valid DBS clearance, or willingness to undergo DBS checks.
  • Minimum of two character or professional references.
  • Experience working with SEND learners within an educational setting.
  • Strong organisational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • A proactive, flexible, and compassionate approach to supporting learners with diverse needs.
Desirable Criteria
  • Experience within a creative, media-based, or arts-focused educational environment.
  • Familiarity with Adobe Creative Cloud (e.g., Photoshop, Premiere Pro, Illustrator).
  • Working towards or holding a recognised SENCO qualification (desirable but not essential for the right candidate).
Additional Information
  • Salary: Competitive, dependent on qualifications and experience.
  • Start Date: Immediate.
  • Contract: 12-week initial contract with progression to a permanent role upon completion of a 6-month probation period.
