Job description
Who we are

Marylebone Boys' School is a Free School academy launched in September 2014. We have about 600 boys in Years 7‑11 and around 150 male and female students in our Sixth Form. In February 2026, we will join United Learning Trust. We are an inner‑city academy with a cohort of about 50 % Pupil Premium students, offering academically rigorous education that emphasises good behaviour, commitment to learning and outstanding teaching. Our motto is "studio et industria" – "through application and hard work". We are situated in the prestigious Paddington Basin area, with brand‑new air‑conditioned buildings, close to Paddington Station and mainline services, and enjoy excellent transport links. All staff have on‑site gym, cycle and tech schemes, subsidised lunch and a generous defined‑contribution pension scheme. We are committed to safeguarding and providing a safe, inclusive environment for all pupils.

What we are looking for

We are seeking a Physics specialist who can teach GCSE and A‑Level Physics. The ideal candidate will join a collaborative, innovative and vibrant team, work hard to make a difference to our boys – many of whom face material and social disadvantage – and have a real chance to make a meaningful difference. The role offers potential for the awarding of a TLR, depending on suitability and experience, and is also suitable for an Early Careers Teacher or someone in the early stages of their teaching career who wants experience in a different school context. The school commits to excellent professional development and training, including an ECT programme (supported by Ambition Institute) and relevant CPD for all career stages.

Key responsibilities
  • Plan, teach and assess GCSE and A‑Level Physics.
  • Support pupils who need additional help and ensure they reach their full potential.
  • Collaborate with the teaching team to develop innovative teaching and learning approaches.
  • Participate in staff meetings, professional development and CPD programmes.
  • Contribute to safeguarding and child protection procedures.
Qualifications and experience
  • Qualified teacher with a degree and teaching qualification.
  • Experience teaching physics at GCSE and A‑Level level.
  • Passion for engaging disadvantaged pupils and promoting inclusivity.
  • Willingness to work towards a Teaching Leadership Qualification (TLR) if suitable.
  • Strong commitment to safeguarding and child protection.
  • Experience or interest in an Early Careers Teacher (ECT) programme supported by Ambition Institute.
Application process
  • The deadline to apply is 8:00 am on Tuesday 18 November 2025.
  • Candidates may submit their application via TES or via the pro‑forma provided.
  • Please provide a supporting statement (max 2 pages).
  • Send applications to jobs@maryleboneschool.org.
Interview process
  • The interview day will be Tuesday 25 November 2025.
  • Only candidates who provide two satisfactory references in advance, one of whom must be your current Headteacher if you are currently working in a school, will be interviewed.
  • The interview process will include an interview, an observed lesson and a data task.
  • We will inform all invited candidates of the outcome and offer feedback to those who are unsuccessful.
