The Classics and Latin Department

Classics is an exceptional department within the College, consistently achieving outstanding results and proving popular with students and parents alike. Latin and Classical Studies are taught to all pupils in S1 and as an option in S2. In S1, the Cambridge Latin Course is used to introduce pupils to the Latin language and life in the ancient Roman world. As they progress into S2, they continue to discover the classical world with a bespoke Latin and Classical Studies course based on the Trojan War and the Adventures of Odysseus.

Both Latin and Classical Studies are popular choices at all certificated levels (National 5, Higher and Advanced Higher), with outstanding examination results. Currently, there is an afterschool Classical Greek class where pupils have the opportunity to be presented for the Intermediate Certificate in Classical Greek (ICCG). The department is dynamic, innovative and progressive, fostering an atmosphere of achievement, enjoyment and success.
