Job description
Permanent Teacher of English
  • Permanent teaching position
  • ECTs welcome to apply
  • Flexible start date
  • QTS/PGCE is essential or working towards

I am partnering with a vibrant 11-18 secondary school in Watford, Hertfordshire, to appoint a permanent Teacher of English. The school is able to offer flexible start dates in January 2026, April 2026 or September 2026, and is very happy to consider applications from ECTs as well as more experienced English teachers.

The English department is central to the school’s curriculum and has a strong focus on developing confident, articulate and engaged readers and writers. As Teacher of English, you will plan and deliver high-quality lessons across KS3 and KS4, with the potential to teach A Level English Language or Literature for suitable candidates. You will work within a collaborative team that shares resources, moderates assessments and continuously refines the curriculum to meet the needs of all learners.

From the school’s perspective, they are seeking someone who can foster a love of literature, build students’ confidence in their written and spoken communication and secure strong outcomes at GCSE and beyond. ECTs will receive a structured induction and regular professional development opportunities. For experienced teachers, there may be opportunities for additional responsibility, with TLRs potentially available for those who can contribute to curriculum leadership, literacy initiatives or mentoring within the department.
