Job description
Responsibilities
  • To prepare and deliver high-quality Economics and Computing lessons in line with school and departmental schemes of work.
  • To mark and assess students' work in both subjects in accordance with school and departmental policies, providing meaningful feedback that supports progress.
  • To attend and actively contribute to relevant departmental and whole-school meetings, including those related to Business, Economics, and Computing curriculum development.
  • To play an active role in the long-term growth and improvement of the Economics and Computing provision within the department.
  • To contribute fully to the allocated Head of Year team, including undertaking form tutor responsibilities where appropriate.
  • To play a full part in safeguarding students and supporting their personal development and well‑being, promoting confidence, digital literacy, and economic awareness.

  • Possess strong communication skills when working with students, colleagues, and parents/carers.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to ongoing professional development to enhance your practice in Business, Economics, and Computing.
Core Duties as a Teacher of Business / Economics and Computing
  • To teach Business Studies, Economics, and Computing across the full age and ability range.
  • To develop and maintain high-quality schemes of learning and teaching resources for Business Studies, Economics, and Computing.
  • To prepare students for external examinations and assessments in all relevant subjects, as directed by the Director of Learning.
  • To undertake an appropriate programme of teaching in accordance with the duties set out by the Director of Learning.
  • To contribute to the design, development, and ongoing review of the Business, Economics, and Computing curriculum.
  • To create opportunities that enhance subject‑specific pedagogy across the faculty, including moderation activities, training sessions, and collaborative planning.

  • Demonstrate good subject and curriculum knowledge: secure knowledge of the relevant subject(s) and curriculum areas, foster and maintain students' interest in the subject, and address misunderstandings; demonstrate a critical understanding of developments in the subject and curriculum areas, and promote the value of scholarship; demonstrate an understanding of and take responsibility for promoting high standards of literacy, articulacy and the correct use of standard English, whatever the teacher's specialist subject.
  • Plan and teach well‑structured lessons: impart knowledge and develop understanding through effective use of lesson time; promote a love of learning and children's intellectual curiosity; set homework and plan other out‑of‑class activities to consolidate and extend the knowledge and understanding students have acquired; reflect systematically on the effectiveness of lessons and approaches to teaching; contribute to the design and provision of an engaging curriculum within the relevant subject area(s).
  • Adapt teaching to respond to the strengths and needs of all students.
  • Make accurate and productive use of assessment: know and understand how to assess the relevant subject and curriculum areas, including statutory assessment requirements; make use of formative and summative assessment to secure students' progress; use relevant data to monitor progress, set targets, and plan subsequent lessons; give students regular feedback, both orally and through accurate marking, and encourage students to respond to the feedback.

Remuneration and Working Conditions

Salary: £32,916 – £51,048.

Hours: 32.5 hours per week, Full Time or Part time.

Reporting to: Director of Learning – Business.

Liaising with: Directors of Learning, Heads of Year, Teaching and Associate Staff, Students and Parent/Carers.
