Job summary

Wiikwemkoong Board of Education is seeking a Teacher for Junior/Intermediate Gym beginning immediately, with a contract through June 30, 2027. The role focuses on delivering Physical Education and Health while promoting an inclusive learning environment and Anishinabek cultural integration.

Qualifications

• Valid Ontario College of Teachers certification/registration.
• QECO Registration.
• AQ in Native as a Second Language, Special Education, and Guidance are assets.

Responsibilities

• Deliver Physical Education and Health curriculum instruction for junior/intermediate grades.
• Perform the duties of the teacher as specified in the Education Act.
• Uphold ethical standards of practice as outlined by the Ontario College of Teachers.
• Foster a caring, inclusive and stimulating learning environment.
• Promote student development across physical, social, cognitive, and emotional domains.
• Collaborate with staff, parents, and community members to support student success.
• Maintain classroom discipline and contribute to school-wide supervision.
• Engage in professional development and reflective teaching practices.
• Incorporate Anishinabek culture, language, and the Seven Grandfather Teachings into instruction.

POSITION: Teacher – (Junior/Intermediate Gym) (Contract to June 30, 2027)
SALARY: According to WBE Salary Grid and Qualifications/Experience
LOCATION: Pontiac School
START DATE: Immediately
Under the direct supervision of the Principal, general direction of the Vice-Principal, and general supervision of the Superintendent of Academics, the Teacher will deliver quality instruction, support an inclusive learning environment, and promote student growth in alignment with Anishinabek values and educational goals.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Deliver Physical Education and Health curriculum instruction for junior/intermediate grades.
• Perform the duties of the teacher as specified in the Education Act.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Valid Ontario College of Teachers certification/registration and QECO Registration.
• Additional Qualifications (AQ) in Native as a Second Language, Special Education, and Guidance are considered assets w/flexibility to adapt to teaching environment.
• Knowledge of Board policies and Ministry of Education guidelines.
• Demonstrated understanding and appreciation of Anishinabek Culture, Traditions, Language and History.
• Strong communication, planning, and classroom management skills.
• Provide a cover letter, resume, and 3 current work-related references.
• Provide a current original vulnerable/criminal reference check (within the last 90 days) upon offer of employment.
