Protecnium is an international consulting firm specializing in engineering and technical services ( www.protecnium.com / en ). We are currently looking for a TBM Shift Engineer to join our team for a tunnel construction project in the South of London (100% Onsite).

Project

Tunnel construction project.

Estimated Duration

12-month contract. In general, when the project ends, we try to relocate the employee to other projects to ensure continuity.

Summary

The TBM Shift Engineer will be responsible for supporting and supervising all activities associated with Tunnel Boring Machine operations during their assigned shift. This role involves coordinating with the TBM Manager, shift supervisors, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure safe, efficient, and consistent progress of the tunnelling works.

Responsibilities
  • Supervise TBM production, excavation parameters, and machine performance during the assigned shift.
  • Ensure adherence to safety procedures, operational standards, and project specifications.
  • Manage and report shift progress, production metrics, and any technical issues encountered.
  • Coordinate with Mechanical, Electrical, and Survey teams to resolve operational challenges.
  • Report incidents, delays, and deviations to senior engineering staff and project management.
  • Participate in daily briefings, toolbox talks, and shift handovers.
  • Ensure proper documentation and logging of shift activities.
  • Support troubleshooting and minor adjustments to TBM systems when required.
  • Contribute to optimizing TBM performance and ensuring uninterrupted excavation cycles.
Requirements
  • Minimum of 4 years experience working as a TBM shift engineer in tunnel projects or similar projects.
  • Degree in Civil Engineering, Mining Engineering, or related field.
  • Strong understanding of tunnelling safety standards and TBM operating procedures.
  • Good communication skills and ability to work in rotating shift patterns.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a complex, high-productivity environment.
  • Previous experience in large-scale tunnelling projects is an asset.
Working Hours

7 / 3- 7 / 4 shifts. 12-hour shifts with rotations: day shifts (8am- 6pm) and night shifts (8pm- 6am).
