TB Specialist Nurse

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a TB Clinical Nurse Specialist to join our nurse‑led TB team at the University Hospitals Dorset based at Poole hospital on the beautiful South coast. Working alongside the TB ECP, ACP and Nurse Consultant, you will help to provide comprehensive TB services across East Dorset.
Main duties of the job
- Assess, diagnose and manage patients with latent and active TB and other mycobacterial infections, including supervision of treatment and contact tracing.
- Operate nurse‑led clinics, providing LTBI diagnosis, treatment and follow‑up, and NTM disease support under the supervision of the ACP and TB Nurse Consultant.
- Lead and participate in TB‑related education and training for healthcare professionals and the public.
- Develop and implement service and policy improvements, contributing to quality and safety initiatives.
- Maintain accurate clinical records, manage resources, and support multidisciplinary teamwork in both primary and secondary care settings.
- Travel across the county as required, operating a personal vehicle (car owner/driver required).
Person Specification
Qualifications
- Registration with a UK professional body.
- Evidence of degree level study.
- GCSE grade 4 or above (or equivalent).
- Evidence of continuing professional development.
- Recognised mentoring qualification.
Experience
- Knowledge of best practice within TB.
- Experience of teaching/mentoring and working with TB or other stigmatised patients.
- Effective team working, plan and implement care, working on own initiative, applying research‑based practice.
- Managing change and implementing and changing policy.
Technical skills
- Clinical reasoning, problem solving, decision making.
- Ability to work under pressure and in a calm, professional, confidential and sensitive manner.
- Interpretation of investigations.
- TB management and experience of vaccinations/screening.
Knowledge
- Common TB presentations and current UK TB guidance.
- Solid understanding of clinical governance, current issues and policy application.
- Appreciation of TB and other stigmatised health conditions.
Other requirements

- Ability to work cross‑site and autonomously in various settings.
