A local government authority in Northgate is seeking a Taxation Officer to manage business rates accounts and ensure compliance with legislation. You will work closely with various departments and external partners, providing customer-focused service. Ideal candidates have strong attention to detail and excellent communication skills. As a Taxation Officer in our Business Rates team, you’ll play a vital role in delivering an accurate and customer-focused Non-Domestic Rates service. You’ll manage the full lifecycle of business rates accounts, from billing and collection through to recovery, ensuring compliance with legislation and council policies. The role involves maintaining property records, processing changes, and helping businesses understand their liabilities and payment options.
You’ll work closely with colleagues across Revenues and Benefits, as well as external partners such as the Valuation Office Agency, to resolve queries and support enforcement processes where necessary.

This is a career-graded post at scale E to F, with progression based on competence and experience.
The role follows a hybrid working model, with the option to work from home and an expectation to attend the office at least two days per week in-line with corporate guidelines. Occasional court attendance may also be required, depending on service needs.
Full training and ongoing development will be provided to build your expertise in business rates legislation and systems.
