IDEX Consulting Ltd is assisting a leading insurer to appoint a Tax Underwriter who will focus on larger, more complex tax risks across the UK and international markets. No prior underwriting experience is required; the role leverages tax-law depth and commercial judgement to assess, structure and negotiate terms with brokers and clients.
Base salary is up to £180,000, plus bonus and a comprehensive package, reflecting experience and market factors.
We’ve been retained by a leading insurer with a global transactional risk offering – they have a top-tier product, underwriting standalone tax liability insurance across the UK and international markets. Following continued growth and increasing demand for tax insurance on complex structures, they are looking to appoint a Tax Underwriter to focus on larger, more complex risks.
This is a well-trodden route for a tax lawyer to pivot out of private practice into the insurance market without leaving their technical grounding behind. No prior underwriting experience is required. You would join a team built largely from corporate, private equity and tax lawyers and accountants who have made the same move, and who now deploy that technical capability commercially while remaining close to transactions.
You will underwrite standalone tax liability risks across UK and international jurisdictions, assessing the technical merits of the identified tax position, forming a view on risk and quantum, structuring and negotiating terms, and drafting policy wording. You will work directly with brokers, law firms, accountancy practices and corporate and private equity clients, taking ownership of your own decisions on high-value matters from first submission through to bind.
We are keen to speak with tax lawyers from top-tier international or US law firms who can demonstrate a first-rate deal sheet, with the technical depth to analyse complex domestic and cross-border tax positions and the commercial judgement to make decisions on them.
Base salary is up to £180,000, plus bonus and a comprehensive package, with the final offer reflecting experience and market factors.
