About the Role

The Liberty International Insurance (‘LII’) Tax Department is comprised of a dynamic team of tax professionals managing international tax matters and compliance processes as well supporting other internal functions and businesses across the LII and Global Risk Solutions (‘GRS’) network across the globe.

Reporting to the Head of Tax Risk, Governance and Operations, this role plays a critical role in shaping the future of the tax function, driving significant change initiatives across tax function operating model. This role will be instrumental in ensuring the successful integration of tax risk management and governance processes for LII, GRS and shaping the evolution of the tax operating model. The role owns the maintenance and development of the tax risk and control framework, documentation and attestations. It ensures alignment to the Liberty Tax Strategy and to regulatory expectations (e.g., UK SAO, HMRC BRR+, Corporate Criminal Offence), supporting a high‑quality, low‑surprise control environment across the region.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and maintain the tax risk and governance framework
  • Manage, maintain and enhance the tax risk and controls framework and document architecture.
  • Identify and respond to emerging and perceived tax risks; remediate control weaknesses.
  • Embed new or changed business/activity into the control environment.
  • Ensure the framework meets tax authority expectations; prepare required documentation (e.g., HMRC Business Risk Review).
  • Maintain SAO controls, procedures, testing and attestation; update as business change requires.
  • Support Compliance with Corporate Criminal Offence (CCO) controls and procedures.
  • Support enterprise‑level risk and controls attestations and testing.
Governance, policy and stakeholder engagement
  • Assist with reporting to senior management and the Board on matters such as tax implications of data issues, risks associated with M&A and restructurings
  • Liaise with regulators, auditors and external advisors on tax governance and regulatory matters.
Operational excellence and transformation
  • Partner with Tax Technology team to drive process improvement and use of tax technology to increase accuracy, reduce manual effort and enhance data controls.
  • Support change programmes (e.g., regulatory change, reporting transformation, ERP/tax technology implementations) from a tax governance and control perspective.

Champion the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) and other emerging technologies to automate tax compliance, reporting, and data analysis processes and governance processes.

Stakeholder Management & Leadership
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key internal stakeholders across Finance, IT, Operations, Risk, and Legal and the US Corporate Tax Team.
  • Liaise effectively with external advisors, software vendors, and tax authorities.
  • Communicate complex tax and technical concepts clearly and concisely to non-tax audiences.
