Job summary

AMS Group is seeking a Tax Director in the UK to lead high-quality, commercially focused tax advisory work for a diverse client base. You will manage senior client relationships, deliver complex advisory solutions and drive business development while shaping the growth of the tax practice.

You will provide leadership to the tax team, develop capability and revenue, and work with Partners and colleagues across advisory, accounting and corporate finance to maximise client value and cross-referral

Qualifications

  • Significant post-qualification experience in a professional services, accountancy or tax advisory environment.
  • Strong demonstrable technical expertise in UK taxation and related legislation.
  • Evidence of continued professional development and up-to-date knowledge of tax practice.

Job description

The Tax Director will play a key role in delivering and growing the firm's Tax Advisory offering, providing commercially focused and technically robust advice to a diverse portfolio of clients. The role will combine senior client relationship management, complex advisory work and business development, while contributing to the strategic development of the wider tax practice. The Tax Director will also provide leadership and support to the tax team, helping to develop both capability and revenue across the practice. We will consider candidates from Manchester OR London

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the delivery of high-quality, commercially focused tax advisory services, providing practical solutions to complex client requirements.
  • Develop and maintain trusted, long-term relationships with business owners, shareholders, senior management and other key client stakeholders.
  • Identify, develop and convert new tax advisory opportunities across both existing clients and the wider market, contributing to the growth and profitability of the tax practice.
  • Advise clients on a broad range of strategic tax matters, including business structuring, reorganisations, acquisitions and disposals, succession and exit planning, shareholder matters and wider tax planning.
  • Work collaboratively with Partners and colleagues across the firm's wider advisory, accounting, corporate finance and other specialist teams to deliver a joined-up client service and maximise cross-referral opportunities.
  • Lead pitches, proposals and business development activity, strengthening the firm's market profile and reputation for tax advisory expertise.
  • Provide technical leadership and oversight across advisory assignments, ensuring advice is accurate, commercially appropriate and delivered to a consistently high standard.
  • Coach, mentor and develop members of the tax team, supporting technical development, career progression and the creation of a high-performing advisory culture.
  • Contribute to the strategic development of the Tax Advisory proposition, identifying opportunities for new services, market development and improved client offerings.
  • Maintain high standards of professional conduct, risk management and regulatory compliance across all tax advisory activity.
Key Relationships

Internal: Tax Partner; Tax team; Partners and Directors across the firm; Accounting; Corporate Finance; Audit; Business Advisory; Marketing and Business Development; Senior Leadership Team.

External: Clients including business owners, shareholders and senior management; prospective clients; professional advisers and introducers; HMRC and other relevant tax authorities; external specialists where appropriate.

Skills, Knowledge & Experience
  • Significant post-qualified experience within a professional services, accountancy or tax advisory environment.
  • Strong technical knowledge of UK taxation, with demonstrable experience in delivering complex tax advisory solutions.
  • Proven ability to manage and develop senior client relationships and act as a trusted adviser to business owners and senior stakeholders.
  • Strong commercial awareness, with the ability to understand clients' wider business objectives and translate these into appropriate tax solutions.
  • Demonstrable experience of business development, including identifying opportunities, developing propositions and converting new work.
  • Experience of leading and developing high-performing tax professionals.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain complex technical matters clearly and commercially.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across multiple service lines and build effective internal and external relationships.
  • Proactive, entrepreneurial and commercially driven approach, with a strong focus on delivering value for clients and the firm.
Qualifications
  • Relevant professional tax qualification and significant relevant post-qualification experience.
  • Strong demonstrable technical expertise in UK taxation.
  • Evidence of continued professional development and up-to-date knowledge of relevant tax legislation and practice.
  • ACA or ACCA qualification.
  • Experience advising owner-managed businesses, privately owned groups and/or larger corporate clients.
  • Established network of clients, professional advisers and introducers.
Performance Measures (Success Criteria)
  • Delivery of agreed annual revenue, gross margin and profitability targets.
  • Growth in Tax Advisory revenue from both existing and new clients.
  • Achievement of agreed personal and team business development targets.
  • Number and value of new Tax Advisory opportunities generated and converted.
  • Growth and retention of key client relationships, including client satisfaction and repeat business.
  • Quality, technical accuracy and timely delivery of advisory work.
  • Effective cross-selling and collaboration with other service lines across the firm.
  • Development, engagement and retention of members of the Tax Advisory team.
  • Contribution to the development and growth of the firm's Tax Advisory proposition and market profile.
  • Compliance with professional standards, internal risk procedures and regulatory requirements.
