Job summary

Oxford Nanopore Technologies Ltd in the United Kingdom is seeking a tax professional to support the UK and international tax activities, focusing on reporting, compliance, data analysis and operational processes within a fast-paced, global business.

You will work closely with experienced tax professionals, contribute to governance improvements and expand your expertise across disciplines while handling UK R&D tax credit data, transfer pricing documentation, and periodic indirect tax filings.

Qualifications

  • Candidates should have a solid interest or experience in tax (practice, in-house or HMRC).
  • 1–2 years' experience in a finance team is desirable.
  • Experience with UK R&D tax credit claims is desirable.
  • Desirable: Transfer Pricing documentation or compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Support data gathering for global corporate tax returns and withholding tax filings, coordinating with the finance team.
  • Maintain the global compliance calendar for timely filings and payments.
  • Assist UK R&D tax credit data extraction and analysis for claims.
  • Prepare and standardise interim and year-end tax reporting calculations.
  • Support Transfer Pricing compliance including documentation and quarterly reviews.
  • Assist with periodic indirect tax returns for UK and international jurisdictions.
  • Analyse data for US sales tax returns and EU filings (EC Sales List, OSS, Intrastat).
  • Verify customer sales tax exemption certificates.
  • Prepare tax-related forms and obtain HMRC Certificates of Residence and Compliance.
  • Draft responses to tax authorities and liaise where required.
  • Ensure timely tax payments and refunds with Treasury/Finance.
  • Prepare tax journals and balance sheet reconciliations; perform quarterly US state tax portal reviews.
  • Raise POs, monitor tax fee trackers and ensure cost control.
  • Maintain organised tax records and manage shared inbox/post.
  • Suggest process improvements and leverage technology to reduce manual work.
  • Support ad-hoc tax, treasury and finance projects as required.

  • Desirable: Degree in Accounting, Finance, Tax or related discipline
  • Desirable: Part-qualified or studying towards ATT/ACA/CTA or equivalent
  • Essential: Proven interest or experience in tax (practice, in-house or HMRC)
  • Essential: 1-2 years' experience in a finance team
  • Desirable: 2-3 years' experience in a tax role (practice, in-house or HMRC)
  • Desirable: Direct tax compliance experience and indirect tax experience
  • Desirable: Experience with listed or multinational businesses
  • Desirable: Experience preparing UK R&D tax credit claims
  • Desirable: Transfer Pricing documentation or compliance
  • Desirable: Exposure to tax accounting and reporting
  • Desirable: Experience using tax compliance or ERP systems (e.g. OneSource, D365)
