Our people are our most valuable asset. We are therefore committed to supporting our colleagues throughout their professional development, providing guidance and training at whatever stage of their career they join us.

Purpose of the role

In joining Affinia, you will be part of a growing, forward‑thinking and dynamic Tax department. This is an excellent opportunity for a technically strong and commercially minded tax professional who wants to take a leading role in advisory‑led work.

You will work closely with Directors and Partners to deliver bespoke tax advice to a varied client base including owner‑managed businesses, corporate groups, property clients, entrepreneurs, family businesses and high‑net‑worth individuals.

The role will include a broad range of corporate, transaction and property tax advisory work, with particular focus on restructuring, acquisitions, disposals, succession planning, share transactions and property‑related tax matters. You will manage advisory projects from scoping through to delivery, prepare clear technical reports, liaise with clients and professional advisers, and identify opportunities to add value across the wider Affinia client base.

As well as delivering high‑quality advice, you will support junior colleagues, contribute to business development and help promote the Tax Advisory offering across the group.

Accountabilities
  • Deliver and support bespoke tax advisory projects, including corporate restructuring, reorganisations, share transactions, acquisitions, disposals, business succession and exit planning.
  • Provide transaction tax support, including tax due diligence, acquisition structuring, review of funds flows, forecast models and transaction documentation.
  • Support clients with property tax planning, including acquisitions, developments, disposals, refinancing, restructuring and ownership structures.
  • Advise on SDLT, LBTT and LTT matters, including group transactions, partnerships, trusts, higher‑rate issues, relief claims and due diligence.
  • Advise on VAT matters connected with land, property, construction, leases and transactions, working with specialist colleagues where appropriate.
  • Identify capital allowances, land remediation relief and Construction Industry Scheme considerations as part of wider tax advisory work.
  • Prepare and review technical tax reports, advice notes, clearance applications, research papers and client‑facing documentation.
Client and portfolio management
  • Act as a trusted adviser to clients, providing clear, commercial and practical tax advice.
  • Manage advisory projects and client relationships, ensuring work is delivered on time, within scope and to a high technical standard.
  • Lead client meetings and present advice clearly to clients, lawyers, financial advisers, corporate finance advisers and other professional contacts.
  • Work closely across tax, corporate finance, audit, accounts and private client teams to provide a joined‑up approach.
  • Proactively identify tax risks, planning opportunities and areas where Affinia can add further value.
Commercial and business development
  • Support Directors and Partners with proposals, fee quotes, pitches, client onboarding and the conversion of new advisory opportunities.
  • Build and maintain relationships with external referrers, including solicitors, financial advisers, funders and other intermediaries.
  • Monitor WIP, billing, budgets and recovery on advisory projects, taking proactive action to manage scope, profitability and delivery.
  • Contribute to the continued growth, profile and technical development of Affinia’s Tax Advisory offering.
People, quality and team contribution
  • Support, mentor and develop junior members of the tax team, including reviewing their work and providing constructive technical feedback.
  • Assist with internal training and knowledge‑sharing across the Tax Service Line.
  • Contribute to process improvements, technical standards and smarter ways of working.
  • Consistently act as an example to colleagues and demonstrate the importance of integrity, collaboration and high‑quality work.
Professional skills/qualifications
  • Experience in mixed tax, corporate tax, property tax or transaction tax advisory.
  • Strong UK tax technical knowledge, particularly across corporate tax, capital taxes and tax issues affecting owner‑managed businesses and corporate groups.
  • An interest in, or experience of, M&A, restructuring, property tax, SDLT, VAT, capital allowances or transaction advisory.
  • The ability to prepare clear technical advice and client‑facing reports.
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple deadlines and competing priorities.
  • Commercial awareness and the confidence to identify advisory opportunities.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to explain complex tax matters clearly.
  • Experience managing client relationships and working with professional advisers.
  • The ability to work autonomously while also collaborating effectively across service lines.
  • A proactive attitude and a desire to help grow a successful advisory team.

You do not need to have experience in every area listed above. The role would suit someone with a strong advisory foundation who wants to broaden their technical exposure and develop into a more rounded tax adviser.
