MBDA in Stevenage is offering a 1-year placement starting September 2027 for undergraduates in Physics, Engineering or related disciplines. You will work within Systems Design on evolving weapons capabilities, gaining hands-on experience with real projects and the Systems Engineering lifecycle.

The role provides learning opportunities, potential routes to a graduate position after the placement, and access to MBDA’s training and development resources.

• Currently an undergraduate pursuing a degree in Physics, Mathematical Sciences, Engineering, Physical Sciences, Chemistry, Technology or Computing.

Responsibilities

• Work within MBDA's Systems Design functions in Stevenage on concepting, designing, delivering and supporting complex weapons capabilities.
• Engage with a range of projects from future capabilities to in-service products and learn the Systems Engineering 'V' model across the lifecycle.

Dynamic working: Up to 5 days per week on-site dependant on workload and/or classification

Security clearance: British Citizen or a Dual UK national with British citizenship.

The opportunity

• Working within one of our Systems Design functions in Stevenage, you will be involved in concepting, designing, delivering and supporting the latest Complex Weapons capabilities for the UK and partner nation Armed Forces in response to advanced threats in all domains (Air, Land, Sea).
• You'll complete a placement based on a project that could be at any stage in a range of areas, from future capabilities to in-service products. Through the placement, we'll help you understand the make-up of a missile or a weapon system; from the warhead to the seeker in the missile to the wider weapon system components.
• These placements will enable you to understand the Systems Engineering 'V' model across the whole product lifecycle.
• Researching future technologies and novel domains;
• Developing requirements and functional architectures ;
• Creating concept solutions
• Analysing performance and supporting trade‑off studies;
• Managing interfaces and integration of systems and sub-systems
• Proving and certification activities at Weapon and Missile system level
• Learning about technologies and customer needs associated with specific products or capabilities.
• Across the Systems Engineering domain, we offer exposure to a wide variety of different technologies, engineering methodologies, and customer needs associated with specific products or capabilities. This also offers a great opportunity to engage with internal and external customers.

Training and Development

You'll be able to choose between a variety of online learning platforms such as Percipio, YouLearn, Career Builder and Video Gateway. Each one is tailored to a specific type of learning. Speak to your line manager to find out more.

We encourage new learning and will provide up to £150 in financial support per year if you wish to participate in further study in your own time. You'll have access to our Learning Gateway, which hosts the formal course catalogue and is where you can select the right training for your role and future development. The catalogue displays which courses are being delivered virtually or are classroom based. Dynamic Working

The way we work is changing and your schedule will reflect that. For non-executive employees, we have a flexi-time scheme that allows you to choose, within certain parameters, when you start and finish each day and how you can use time you have accrued. If you have worked the time, you are also able to accrue and take up to 15 days of Flexi-leave per annum, in addition to the 25 days of annual leave provided and bank holidays.
