Job description
Overview

Demonstrated expertise in systems engineering working with hardware, software, networking, operating systems. Proficiency in scripting processes in Bash, Python, or Ruby. Solid understanding of Linux and networking, with the ability to troubleshoot and anticipate problems that affect performance, reliability, or availability of software systems. The role involves leading the creation, revision, and/or improvement of standard operational procedures (SOPs) and driving operational best practices.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the creation, revision, and/or improvement of standard operational procedures (SOPs) and drive operational best practices.
  • Experience with monitoring frameworks (such as CloudWatch, Datadog, Grafana, Elastic or similar).
  • Mentor junior engineers, collaborate cross-organizationally, and lead strategic team efforts requiring work from multiple team members.
  • Experience supporting services in AWS or other cloud systems or services.
  • Experience operating 24x7 high-availability, distributed software applications and performing performance tuning and fleet optimization.
  • AWS ESC initiative: spearhead the launch of the European Sovereign Cloud (ESC) in 2025, build and lead operations and development teams delivering high-availability AWS services (EC2, S3, Dynamo, Lambda, Bedrock) for EU customers, and collaborate with global AWS teams to influence evolution of AWS services and technology.
  • Contribute to day-to-day operations, improve availability, reliability, latency, performance, and efficiency of the ESC; review operational health, identify anomalies, and craft actionable bug reports.
  • Participate in on-call rotations to resolve incidents occurring out-of-hours and work toward ensuring scalable and reliable services for EU customers.
  • Develop and test scripts to enhance workflows and share knowledge on the European Sovereign Cloud with service teams.
  • Contribute to change management documents and address the team’s operational backlog as part of delivering reliable software systems.
Qualifications
  • Fluency in written and spoken English is required.
  • Candidate must be a national of an EU member state and residing in the EU to operate the AWS European Sovereign Cloud.
  • Amazon will provide relocation support for successful applicants relocating within the European Union.
  • Employees will participate in an On-Call rota.
