Role Overview:

Based at the Liverpool Kirkdale Depot, this role reports into the on‑duty Production Manager. The System Technician will provide essential technical and production support, ensuring accurate reporting across performance functions and compliance with contractual standards. They will guarantee trains meet safety, reliability, environmental, and presentation criteria, applying industry best practices to support Stadler’s growth in the UK. Responsibilities include fault diagnosis, maintenance, repairs, and modifications, with opportunities to specialise in areas such as training or system support, while independently driving company KPIs and values.

What are we looking for?
Essential:
  • Served a recognised apprenticeship to minimum City and Guilds/ BTEC level with Mechanical / Electrical / electronic bias and NVQ level 5 or to a proven similar standard.
  • Extensive professional engineering experience in (rolling stock) maintenance.
  • Knowledge and experience in modern technical systems and fault finding techniques and the interaction between these, conducting and leading complex root cause investigations and reading electrical / mechanical schematics competently.
  • Strong knowledge, experience and understanding of risk and safety in the workplace from a production perspective.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve complex problems.
  • Be able to pass and maintain all competencies required forthe role.
  • Must demonstrate commitment to maintaining professional knowledge and ensure the depth of their specialist knowledge is maintained.
  • Can demonstrate a customer driven attitude focused on quality.
  • Ability to work as part of a team, going above and beyond were required.
  • Willing to support and guide colleagues.
  • Base understanding of cost implications.
  • Demonstrate a passion for continual improvement, self‑improvement, system & process improvements, operational excellence and end user experience.
  • Good level of IT skill including Microsoft packages.
Desirable:
  • Experience of planning and scheduling work.
  • Experience of managing small teams including first line people management issues.
  • Knowledge of maintenance activities with a large multi‑disciplined transport fleet.
  • Proven extensive experience in an engineering environment with a focus on technical, through‑life support.
  • Demonstrate understanding and experience with system know‑how and know‑why, process and performance improvement techniques.
  • Demonstrate ability to understand, including but not limited to, complex designs, reports, recommendations and investigations that may have impact to the safe and cost effective operation to both Stadler and other stakeholders.
  • Ability to understand legislation and standards relating to people & product health and safety, production, technical and general transport matters.
