Canterbury City Council are looking for a GIS Officer to join their Digital Services team.

About this job

You’ll be working with the Digital Services team to develop, support and manage application of geographic information‑based monitoring systems throughout the council.

Here’s what you’ll get up to
  • Managing the council’s geospatial databases ensuring system integrity is appropriately maintained, data is accurate, up to date, correctly structured and accessible to all internal and external sources.
  • Producing corporate geographic information related policy overlays, in relation to all aspects of service provision; including planning, development strategy and community insight data.
  • Creating, maintaining and implementing the corporate Land and Property Gazetteer.
  • Developing and continuously improving the Geospatial systems so they continue to underpin advances in the council’s digital delivery agenda.
  • Providing support and training for users at all levels within the council and adapting the training dependent on the audience.
Working pattern
  • Full‑time 37 hours a week, Monday – Friday excluding bank holidays.
  • Permanent contract.
  • The team operates a flexible hybrid working model. Normally you will be expected to be on site at least once a fortnight, subject to project demands.
About you
  • Knowledge:
  • GIS, LLPG, street naming and numbering.
  • Specialised software packages such as ArcGIS.
  • Ordnance Survey mapping and digitising techniques.
  • Digital systems and their implementation.
  • Agile principles and methodology.
  • Experience:
  • Working with and analysing spatial data.
  • Maintaining an LLPG compliant to BS7666.
  • Understanding of LLPG Data Entry Conventions and BS7666 standards for gazetteers.
  • Communicating with users and stakeholders at all levels to collect requirements, describe software product features, and align on technical designs.
  • Working with a technical development team to deliver solutions that are architecturally sound, maintainable, and scalable.
  • Prioritising simultaneous requests and meeting deadlines.
Your qualifications
  • An undergraduate degree (or equivalent relevant experience).
  • Basic DBS check as part of pre‑employment clearances.
