Job summary

Flix Interactive is seeking a creative System Designer to shape core gameplay and systems for its co-development projects. Based near West Midlands or UK-wide remote, you will design mechanics, balance systems, prototype features in Unreal Engine, and collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams to deliver immersive player experiences.

The ideal candidate has 3+ years as a Game Designer, strong Unreal Blueprinting skills, and a passion for open-world design, combat and AI.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years as a Game Designer in the video game industry.
  • Experience prototyping, tuning and balancing game features in Unreal Engine.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking to assess and improve gameplay elements.

Responsibilities

  • Own the design of innovative gameplay mechanics, systems and features.
  • Design and balance gameplay systems, progression loops, economies and core mechanics.
  • Prototype features in engine to illustrate vision for a feature or system.
  • Implement strategies to optimize player engagement, retention and satisfaction.
  • Collaborate with team and iterate on game design elements based on feedback.

UK Remote or West Midlands-based / Full-Time Contractor

Role:

We are seeking a creativeSystemDesigner todesign core gameplay and systemsfor our co-development projects.You will play akeyrole indevelopinggameplay mechanics, systems, and overall player experiences. Leveraging yourexpertise, you will collaborate with cross-functional teamsand ensure that our games deliver immersive, engaging, and memorable experiences.

Responsibilities:
  • Own thedesignof innovative gameplay mechanics, systems, and features that align with the game’s creative vision and narrative.
  • Design and balance gameplay systems, progression loops, economies, and other core mechanics to ensure a satisfying and rewarding player experience.
  • Whereappropriate, prototype features in engine to illustrate the vision for a feature or system.
  • Implement strategies tooptimizeplayer engagement, retention, and overall satisfaction through effective gameplay design and mechanics.
  • Continuously analyse and adjust game parameters, difficulty curves, and progression to achieveoptimalplayer satisfaction and gameplay balance.
  • Collaborate effectively with team members and iterate on game design elements based oninternal and externalfeedback to achieve the desired gameplayobjectives.
  • 3+ years of experience as a Game Designer in the video game industry, with a proventrack recordof contributing to successful game projects.
  • “In Engine” Experience: Experience of prototyping, tuning and balancing game features and content in Unreal Engine or similar proprietary engine.
  • Analytical and Critical Thinking: Strong analytical and critical thinking skills to assess and improve gameplay elements, systems, and player experiences.
  • Collaborative Mindset: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate seamlessly within cross-disciplinary teams andprovideeffective guidance.
  • Passion for Gaming: A deep passion for video games and a keen understanding of player behaviour and engagement mechanics
  • Experience delivering feature sets within a co-development studio.
  • Experience designing and balancing combat, 3C’s or AI within a released title.
  • Strong Unreal Blueprinting skills where you can prototype mechanics and features from scratch
  • Experience of working within Unreal on online features
  • Open-world encounter, mission and feature design
  • Experience with post-launch, live service or DLC development
