Job summary

A prominent IT support firm in Kingston upon Hull is seeking a skilled System Administrator to manage IT systems and infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have strong Windows Server and Active Directory experience, as well as programming skills in Python and SQL. You will have a varied role that includes infrastructure support, hands-on development, and problem-solving in a professional environment. The position offers a competitive salary of £30,000 - £35,000 per annum with additional benefits including a pension scheme and holiday allowance.

Overview

Systems Administrator / Developer. Hull – Office based.

Do you enjoy owning IT systems end to end rather than just firefighting tickets? Are you comfortable switching between infrastructure support and hands‑on development work? Looking for a stable, office‑based role where your technical input actually matters?

What's in it for you

  • 37‑hour week (08:30‑17:00 Monday to Thursday, 08:30‑13:30 Friday)

What will you be doing
  • Managing and maintaining servers, networks, firewalls and core IT infrastructure
  • Monitoring system performance, security, backups and storage
  • Diagnosing and resolving hardware, software and network issues
  • Developing internal business solutions using Python, SQL and web technologies
  • Managing user accounts, permissions and group policies
  • Supporting and improving the IT service desk function
  • Producing reports and working with ERP systems
  • Maintaining documentation, IT policies and security standards (ISO27001 / Cyber Essentials)
  • Supporting new starters with system access and inductions
Where you'll be doing it

You'll be joining a UK-based business with an established internal IT function. The role is hands‑on and varied, covering infrastructure, support and development work in a professional office environment.

What you'll need
  • Strong experience in a Windows Server environment
  • Knowledge of Active Directory, Entra, networking and VLANs
  • Programming experience with Python and SQL
  • Working knowledge of HTML, CSS and JavaScript
  • Experience with PowerShell, Power BI / DAX and M365
  • Experience producing Crystal Reports and working with ERP systems
  • Strong problem‑solving and analytical skills
  • A Computer Science, IT or related degree (or equivalent experience)
