Job summary

RWE Generation UK offers an industrial placement in the Materials team. The role involves hands‑on laboratory work for materials and defect characterization, including optical and scanning electron microscopy, and assisting with failure assessments for gas and renewable assets.

Start date is 28th June 2027, full time, fixed term (13 months). Training, courses and workshops are provided for development, with opportunities to visit power station sites for site-based inspection and maintenance

Qualifications

• You should be pursuing a BEng or MEng degree, ideally in Materials Science and Engineering.
• Open to related Engineering subjects with an interest in materials and laboratory work.

Are you interested in an engineering placement with one of the UK’s largest energy producers? Our Materials team has an exciting industrial placement opportunity and is looking for a motivated team member with excellent interpersonal skills!

This role involves hands‑on work in our metallurgical laboratories, assisting with failure assessments and development work for RWE’s gas and renewable assets. You will also have opportunities to visit operating power station sites to assist with site based inspection, maintenance and repair activities.

About the role

• Develop your laboratory skills for materials and defect characterisation using optical and scanning electron microscopy.
• Learn about the power generation industry and the exciting developments and career opportunities that will lead us to net zero.

You will receive on‑the‑job training, and attend courses and workshops for your personal development.

Job requirements and experience

• You should be pursuing a BEng or MEng degree, ideally in Materials Science and Engineering.

However, if you are studying for a degree in a related Engineering subject and you are interested in materials and laboratory work then we encourage you to apply!

The Assessment Centre will take place on Tuesday 24th November 2026 face to face at DoubleTree by Hilton Swindon, Lydiard Fields, Great Western Way, Swindon, Wilts SN5 8UZ.Accommodation will be booked on your behalf and travel subsidised by RWE. The evening prior to the Assessment Centre a meal will be held at DoubleTree by Hilton which you will be required to attend.
