Job description

Sustainable Aviation Analytics Associate

Are you looking for an opportunity to use data and analytical tools to help make aviation more sustainable? We are seeking a new colleague who can apply strong analytical and problem-solving skills to complex sustainability challenges in an aviation context. Decarbonising aviation has never been more important. Our work spans the design, evaluation and implementation of policies, development of pragmatic corporate sustainability strategies, and the delivery of sustainability initiatives. Our clients include governments, investors, NGOs, airlines, airports, and others on the journey to more sustainability operations.

The role

As a Sustainable Aviation Analytics Associate, you’ll be a key part of our team delivering evidence‑led projects to reduce the environmental impact of aviation. You will help us develop and apply analytical models and tools to support aviation decarbonisation decision‑making, including work on sustainable aviation fuels, project economics, policy design, market analysis and emissions assessment. The role sits within our dedicated Sustainable Aviation team, part of the Aviation, Travel and Tourism consulting division, with opportunities to contribute to wider aviation projects. This role can be based in either Spain or the UK.

How you will make an impact

Develop, improve and apply analytical models and tools to answer complex questions across sustainable aviation projects. Analyse, manage and visualise varied datasets, helping to maintain robust, efficient and well‑documented analytical workflows. Use coding, automation and emerging AI tools where appropriate to improve the quality and efficiency of our analysis. Translate analytical outputs into clear findings and practical recommendations for clients and colleagues. Contribute to project delivery and business growth, including research, report writing, proposals and the development of new methods and service. Provide ICF’s clients with robust solutions to novel challenges. To do this, you will keep up to date with new market developments, policies, methodologies and practices and developing new ways of working. Support business growth including activities such as building industry relationships, writing proposals, contributing to insightful articles, and representing ICF at conferences.

The knowledge, skills and experience we’re looking for
  • At least 2 years of relevant professional, academic or research experience. Relevant postgraduate research, including experience gained through a PhD, will be considered.
  • Proven quantitative and problem‑solving ability, including experience processing, analysing and visualising data.
  • Experience using Python or another analytical programming language, or a strong interest and demonstrated ability to learn these tools.
  • Strong research skills, with the ability to efficiently identify and evaluate relevant data and evidence from academic literature and other credible sources.
  • Knowledge of aviation, sustainability, energy, transport, environmental policy or low‑carbon fuels would be advantageous, but is not essential.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant quantitative, scientific, engineering, economics, data or policy‑related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Excellent communication skills including formal report writing, presentation and client management, primarily in English.
The strengths and behaviours required
  • Strong analytical judgement, with attention to data quality, assumptions and limitations
  • Curiosity and enthusiasm for using data to tackle sustainability challenges
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving capabilities
  • A quick learner who strives to improve and expand their skillsets and knowledge
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team
