Job DescriptionThe De Beers Group Corporate Sustainability Team is accountable for shaping De Beers' Building Forever sustainability strategy, supporting the organisation to deliver on its commitments, coordinating our ESG governance and reporting, sharing our ESG achievements with external stakeholders, managing our flagship partnerships (such as UN Women and Okavango Eternal with National Geographic), and identifying opportunities to optimise the value of our ESG work for all parts of the business. Our team maintains a dynamic approach to strategy; horizon-scanning for current issues and approaches and integrating the needs of the business; customers, communities; government; civil society and employees into a long-term strategy that secures our license to operate and builds a positive legacy by delivering solutions for communities, ecosystems and underrepresented people. We also act as a business partner to other teams, and a centre of expertise, coordinating and advising on sustainability strategy, implementation and disclosures.
The role of Sustainability Reporting Manager will report into the Interim Chief Sustainability Officer / SVP Sustainable Impact. You will work closely with all members of the broader sustainability team - and indeed network across the entire Group - to support our shared agenda.
The Sustainability Reporting Manager will play an important role in the Corporate Sustainability Team as we work together to deliver Building Forever and disclosure our progress on the journey. Our external reporting must be clear, concise and adhere to best practices, as well as telling compelling stories that engage our broad range of stakeholders. This will require the job holder to work collaboratively across the Group and engage with external best practice fora to ensure that De Beers has the relationships, systems, analytics and insights to produce world-class sustainability reporting.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategy & Leadership
- Lead ESG disclosure strategy, reporting and assurance needs to achieve end state that is aligned with business objectives and stakeholder requirements.
- Partner with Group Corporate Communications and Employee Engagement to anticipate the information and data required to underpin communication, engagement and representation of sustainability issues across the BUs externally & internally.
Delivery
- Lead the annual process to deliver the De Beers ESG disclosures, including project management of all key inputs: messaging; content interviews; evolution in step with regulatory expectations and the review process.
- Work with the Anglo-American Sustainability team to ensure alignment and appropriate information shared on behalf of De Beers for Anglo American Group reporting.
- Support implementation of the Analyse and Improve Framework as required within De Beers to:
- Measure - Identify, define and prioritise sustainability metrics (based on stakeholder expectations and performance management requirements) as well as establish a reporting and assurance road map for the metrics.
- Analyse - Design a system to analyse and assess systemic sustainability performance (including implementation of sustainability plans) and stakeholder value
- Improve - Provide guidance to Group Functions, BUs and sites to understand the full impact of interventions and identify interventions to improve systemic sustainability performance outcomes.
Engagement
- Support wider team to provide data and information in support of targeted advocacy on Building Forever - including awareness raising, category marketing and brand positioning with employees, rough diamond buyers, luxury brands and our consumers.
Qualifications- Strong experience in ESG / Sustainability reporting for a large corporate organisation.
- A graduate or postgraduate qualification in the social or environmental sciences.
- Preferred experience in mining or luxury industries.
- Excellent project management and leadership.
- Good understanding of ESG strategy development, impact measurement and reporting, and how the ESG disclosure landscape is evolving.
- Strong analytical skills, and experience working with ESG data management tools.
- Strong experience of leading complex workstreams, coordination of knowledge sharing across disciplines, managing workloads and influencing change.
- Excellent project management and leadership skills.
- Organised and structured working style to ensure delivery and execution.
- Proven analytical skills and attention to detail, including the ability to make good decisions in conditions of uncertainty.
- Fluent and excellent written and verbal English skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and communications skills; collaborative and able to easily build good relationships with colleagues and external stakeholders.
- Highly proactive and self-motivated.
- Excels at working autonomously to agreed strategic goals and priorities.
- Able to spot and understand relevant external developments and link them to the business need.
