Job description

A well-established, family-owned UK manufacturing business is seeking a Sustainability & ESG Manager to take ownership of its sustainability, carbon and ESG agenda.

This is a hands-on, end-to-end role with genuine influence — ideal for someone who wants to move beyond reporting and play a central role in shaping how a business measures, reduces and communicates its environmental impact.

The organisation operates in the energy and infrastructure space , designing and manufacturing products that actively reduce energy loss and carbon emissions worldwide. Sustainability is not a bolt-on here — it sits at the heart of what the business delivers.

The Role

Reporting into the Head of Marketing & Sustainability, the Sustainability & ESG Manager will be responsible for developing, delivering and continuously improving the company’s sustainability strategy across operations, products and the wider supply chain.

This role combines strategy, data, reporting and stakeholder engagement , with visibility across the business and external partners.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and deliver a sustainability strategy and structured work plan
  • Own carbon measurement across Scope 1, 2 and 3 , including expansion into additional relevant categories
  • Create and manage the annual sustainability report
  • Work closely with Finance to produce SECR reporting alongside statutory accounts
  • Draft ESG policies, metrics and governance frameworks
  • Lead CSR initiatives and sustainability improvement programmes
  • Partner with procurement to establish responsible sourcing principles
  • Scope and gather data for product embodied carbon and Life Cycle Assessments (LCA)
  • Work with external carbon auditors to measure, reduce and verify emissions
  • Identify and manage accreditation, certification and verification schemes
  • Collate carbon and ESG data from internal teams, suppliers and customers
  • Respond to customer sustainability questionnaires and ESG data requests
  • Contribute to and help deliver a long-term carbon reduction plan
  • Improve data quality by proposing enhancements to CRM and ERP systems
  • Present sustainability data and progress to internal and external stakeholders
  • Represent the business at industry events, forums and conferences
What They’re Looking For
  • A formal sustainability qualification
  • Proven experience delivering sustainability strategy and reporting
  • Strong hands-on experience with Scope 1, 2 and 3 carbon reporting
  • Understanding of UK sustainability regulations and reporting requirements
  • Experience with carbon frameworks, methodologies and accreditation schemes
  • Confidence working with product carbon data and LCA approaches
  • Advanced Excel skills and strong data-handling capability
  • High attention to detail with the ability to own complex reporting outputs
  • A self-starter who can manage projects end-to-end with minimal supervision
  • Comfortable working cross-functionally in a manufacturing environment
  • Strong communication skills, with confidence presenting to stakeholders
  • Background in manufacturing, engineering or energy-related industries is advantageous
What’s on Offer
  • Competitive salary (negotiable based on experience)
  • 25 days holiday + bank holidays
  • Quarterly profit share scheme
  • Healthcare & wellbeing support
  • Pension scheme
  • Enhanced maternity & paternity pay
  • EV scheme with on-site charging
  • On-site parking
  • Long-term role within a stable, growing, purpose-driven business
Why This Role Stands Out

This is a rare opportunity to own sustainability from strategy through to delivery in a manufacturing business where environmental performance genuinely matters. The role offers visibility, autonomy and the chance to make measurable impact — not just produce reports.
