Our Infrastructure Delivery (ID) team is looking for an experienced and passionate environmental and sustainability professional to drive strategy and compliance across a diverse portfolio of construction projects. This is a great opportunity to be at the forefront of embedding environmental excellence into the heart of delivery.
You’ll lead a team of specialists and work directly with our delivery units and supply chain partners to enhance awareness, understanding, and implementation of key sustainability goals. From developing overarching management plans and systems, to providing expert advice in a fast-paced construction setting, you’ll ensure that both environmental compliance and strategic ambitions are met and exceeded.
You’ll ensure that client and contractor organisations comply with business, contractual and legislative requirements, and use performance insights to provide commentary on current position, areas of risk and opportunities to improve.
Visiting sites and meeting with contractors and supply chain, you’ll ensure appropriate materials are used and develop initiatives to address any under-performance, whilst maintaining accurate performance records.
In addition, you’ll provide assurance to the ID Executive that environmental & sustainability policies and standards are being met within the projects.
We’re flexible on where you are based but there will be a need to travel regularly to sites and contractor offices throughout England and Wales, and this can be combined with hybrid working from home.

Excellent interpersonal and stakeholder management skills, with the ability and confidence to communicate and build relationships with stakeholders at all levels of the organisation is essential, as is a drive and enthusiasm for continuous improvement and experience of change management.
You’ll be personally committed to finding new ways of working in conjunction with others to achieve business goals and have excellent organisational, planning and time management skills.
Experience of working with regulatory agencies and external stakeholders is key and you must hold a Current driving licence.
At National Grid we are committed to building a diverse, inclusive and authentic workplace for everyone. So, if you’re excited about this role but your experience or qualifications don’t match the job description exactly, we encourage you to apply anyway. You might just be the right person for our growing business in this role or another one.
