Job description
Overview

Mid and South Essex NHS Trust's Surgery Department is looking for Clinical Fellows to join our General Surgery teams on a fixed‑term full‑time basis, contracted until 30th September 2026.

Responsibilities
  • Perform duties in concert with the supervising consultant, who has final medical responsibility for all patients under his/her care.
  • Support the consultants and FY1 to ST2 doctors in delivering in‑patient care within this busy and forward‑thinking department.
  • Provide surgical services, including prevention, assessment, diagnosis and treatment of surgical illness.
  • Work closely with medical, nursing and allied health professionals to deliver high‑quality patient care.
  • Take clinical responsibilities and be placed on the on‑call rota only after the supervising consultant deems competent to do so.
  • Meet with the educational supervisor to discuss personal development plans within the first six weeks of commencing the post.
  • Perform operations and assist in theatres.
  • Ensure continuity of care for patients on the ward.
  • Participate in a 1 in 13 shift on‑call rota.
Qualifications

Post‑core surgical training (or equivalent) or more senior clinicians seeking further complex operative experience prior to taking up a consultant post. Clinical Fellow ST3+ level is preferred.
