Job summary

COLAS ROADS UK in Liverpool seeks a Skilled Operative to join the surfacing team, performing machine surfacing and handlay tasks under the Surfacing Manager. You will follow safety procedures, maintain records, and assist with site planning, delivering high-quality surfacing schemes across the North West.

The ideal candidate has surfacing operation experience, knowledge of machine surfacing/handlay techniques, and a good grasp of health and safety on construction sites.

Qualifications

• Experience in surfacing operations and machine surfacing/handlay techniques.
• Familiarity with health and safety practices on construction projects.
• Ability to follow Risk Assessments and report defects confidently.
• Reliable team player with good communication and organisation.

Responsibilities

• Follow risk assessments, method statements, and safe working procedures.
• Perform machine surfacing and handlay tasks to a high standard.
• Report plant and vehicle defects and assist with maintenance.
• Support site planning by managing labour, plant, materials, and subcontractors.
• Keep accurate records for contract performance and financial reporting.
• Provide practical support and leadership to site personnel.
• Maintain positive relationships with clients and the public.
