About Havencare

Havencare is a forward-thinking and growing charity. We have been making a difference for 35+ years, changing the lives of people who have learning disabilities, autism, brain injuries, and other support needs.

At Havencare, first and foremost, we are looking for outstanding people who align with our values of Transparency, Quality and Engagement.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, resourceful and forward-thinking person and are excited for the opportunity for you to join our team, supporting Mr R in the Penzance area.

About the Role

Mr R currently lives in a Bungalow in Penzance. He requires support to live with Epilepsy, Autism, learning difficulties and the effects of a brain injury that include cognitive impairments and difficulties with concentration or processing information.

He is currently supported 24hrs a week but has identified this is too much for him and his working with his Social Worker to review this.

He requires support with maintaining all areas of his home and health, although he is partially independent with his medication and is empowered and involved with decision making about his life.

He can at times have trouble understanding the do’s and don’ts of life, can get information muddled and over think things which causes him to feel anxious and frustrated. He will focus on topics and will discuss these repetitively. Rota’s, confirming plans and others information and wellbeing. At times his social interaction and decision-making requires intervention and redirecting

Mr R is encouraged to talk with staff to explore and understand the day ahead and needs you to work in a way that is responsive, proactive and consider ongoing adjustments.

This can challenge his staff and so he needs skilled and patient understanding to manage distress at these times. Mr R wants to feel he is being told the truth, do not keep things from him and help him through changes which he finds particularly difficult.

Mr R is an avid Pirates fan with a season ticket, attends as many matches as he can and watches a variety of sports on TV. With a wicked sense of humour, he enjoys having a laugh and joke. He likes to cook (James Martin books are a firm favourite), the opportunity to watch live shows locally, local walk, his garden and sets himself projects to make things from wood for his home.

His family are important to him, having daily contact with them, chatting and hearing about their day etc.

About you

You will need to have a clean and full UK Driver’s License (manual) as Mr R has his own car that he will require you to use.

Having similar interests as MR R would be ideal or someone wanting to learn about his interests.

He prefers to work with males but open to females, someone a few years older than him in their 30’s.

They must be responsible, reliable, a good listener, understanding, good timekeeping as he doesn’t like people who are late.

A calm-natured, patient and good-humoured person with an awareness of your emotional resilience

Confident to support distressed behaviour

You will need to be confident working alone, be consistent, comfortable to explore what he is communicating and ensuring good communication with your colleagues and family.

Happy to navigate systems used efficiently and fulfil your responsibilities of the role
