Support Worker / Independent Advocate

We have a fantastic new opportunity to join a dedicated and inclusive team providing advocacy and information services across the Banes area.

Working Hours: 37 hours, Monday to Friday 9am – 5pm

Location: Home based with travel in and around Banes; applicants must live within the area, hold a full driver’s licence and have access to private transport.

Salary: £24,242.40 per annum (starting)

Job Type: Permanent

Job Overview: As a Support Worker / Independent Advocate you will empower vulnerable adults by helping them understand their rights, exploring options and making informed decisions about health and social care. You will work independently, collaborate with local agencies and deliver persuasive written and verbal representations to secure the best possible outcomes for clients.

Duties
  • Provide independent advocacy to individuals facing health and social care challenges.
  • Help clients navigate complex systems and make informed choices.
  • Present persuasive verbal and written representations to professionals and agencies.
  • Collaborate with statutory and voluntary organisations to resolve issues and support client outcomes.
  • Maintain accurate records within agreed timescales using client management systems.
  • Prioritise and organise workload effectively while meeting deadlines.
  • Raise awareness of advocacy rights and responsibilities within the community.
  • Handle sensitive and personal information with discretion and professionalism.
Essential Requirements
  • Excellent communication skills – able to build trust, listen actively and advocate clearly on behalf of clients.
  • Strong IT proficiency – confident using Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel, with the ability to learn new databases.
  • Attention to detail – ensure records and reports are accurate, timely and compliant with organisational standards.
  • Time management – able to work independently and meet deadlines in a remote working environment.
Desirable
  • Previous advocacy or support experience within a health and social care setting.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding and issues affecting vulnerable people.
  • Familiarity with local public and voluntary sector organisations in the Banes area.
