Job description
Support Worker - Deaf Community Services

We have a fantastic new opportunity to join us and support our d/Deaf service users in Blackburn.

We are looking for confident Care & Support Workers with the passion to deliver outstanding care and to empower d/Deaf service users to access the same recovery opportunities as their hearing peers.

You will be working full‑time (42 hours per week) across a mixed shift pattern of 3–4 twelve‑hour shifts per week, focussing on supporting our d/Deaf (profound, severe, partial or hard of hearing) service users with mental health needs in our new Deaf community step‑down setting in Blackburn.

This role requires native British Sign Language usage or a minimum Signature Level 2 as it is a deaf service.

Main duties of the job

About the service: Vincent Court is a five‑bed community rehabilitation (level 1) service for deaf men who have progressed through the hospital pathway at Cygnet Bury Dunes (Bridgehampton Ward). We also accept referrals from other high‑support inpatient rehabilitation (level 2) services, other low‑secure services and directly from the community.

We offer a safe, comfortable and homely setting that enables individuals to focus on their continued recovery and transition back into a successful and more independent lifestyle, with the advantage of continuing to access the same multidisciplinary team (MDT) at Cygnet Bury Dunes (Bridgehampton Ward).

Note: This service is due to open within the next few months.

About you
  • You may be d/Deaf yourself.
  • Have experience working or living with Deaf people before.
  • Can sign in BSL.
  • Qualified in Signature BSL to a minimum of Level 2 or willing to gain this accreditation through us.
  • You are a strong worker and team player.
  • Want to help support d/Deaf people.
  • Have an interest in helping d/Deaf people with mental health problems.
Job responsibilities
  • Offer enhanced care with a flexible learning approach for all the people in our care.
  • Provide guidance and encouragement through physical and emotional support.
  • Learn about individuals' specific needs and provide help in the most appropriate way.
  • Assist with medical and welfare needs.
  • Report on medical and welfare needs as required.
  • Safeguard service users.
  • Maintain a safe, clean environment for all.
Benefits
  • Opportunities for further learning with our excellent apprenticeship scheme.
  • Flexible working with the opportunity for overtime.
  • Regular coaching and appraisal.
  • Employee discount savings and Cycle to Work scheme.
