Support Worker / Befriender (Male) x 2 Ref: 02/Ayr/JL

Location: Ayr

Posts (x 2): 16 hours

Hours: Variable - to be discussed at interview

Pay: £12.60 per hour

Male Support Workers (x 2) required to befriend and support a 34 year old man who lives in his own home in Ayr. Applicants must have a genuine passion for providing excellent care and support and can demonstrate professionalism and commitment. You will provide support throughout the day, personal care and various health activities to support wellbeing. Some basic admin skills are required to assist in diary planning and daily/monthly reporting. The gentleman has mobility issues and learning disabilities. He uses a wheelchair when out and about and requires significant assistance with manoeuvring.

Confidentiality and respect for the employer’s privacy is of the utmost importance as some care is provided within the employer’s home.

Social Support
  • Assistance to attend the local swimming pool on a regular basis – applicants must be good swimmers and comfortable in the water.
  • Assistance to attend other social events as required, including football games, walks, days out, cinema and socialising.
Household Tasks
  • Preparing breakfast, lunch and evening meal, making hot drinks and snacks.
  • Small amount of cleaning – ensuring surfaces are cleaned and dishes are washed and put away after meals.
General Tasks
  • Going to local shops and assisting with shopping.

The post is subject to the following conditions: 5.6 weeks annual leave per annum inclusive of public holidays and a 6‑month probationary period. Must be flexible as shifts will vary week to week in line with the employer’s needs and may also be required to cover for other staff on leave or sick. Employer has his own vehicle and a current clean driver’s licence preferred.

Successful applicants will be required to provide two up‑to‑date reference contacts and undergo a new or updated Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check for the Protection of Vulnerable Groups.

Previous experience in a caring role would be advantageous but is not necessary. This post would be suitable for someone local due to some late finishing times.
