Job description

Support Worker - Adults Learning Disabilities

Pay Rate: £12.90 per hour | Days | Full-time

Make a Real Difference, Every Day

We're looking for an experienced, compassionate Support Worker to provide dedicated one-to-one support to an adult with learning disabilities in Worksop, whose support needs include behaviours of concern. This is a role built around therapeutic, person-centred care, helping the person we support build routine, confidence, and genuine independence in their own home and community.

You'll need the confidence, patience, and consistency to support someone through both good days and harder ones, always with dignity, choice, and their long-term wellbeing at the centre of what you do.

About the Role

This is a single-person support role, so consistency of approach matters enormously. You'll work from an individualised support plan and positive behaviour support (PBS) framework, helping the person we support:

  • Build and sustain daily routines that promote stability and independence
  • Access their local community, shopping, leisure, appointments, social activities in ways that reflect their own choices and interests
  • Develop confidence in making decisions about their own life, from small daily choices to longer-term goals
  • Navigate anxiety, emotional dysregulation, or behaviours of concern using a calm, trauma-informed, non-reactive approach
  • Maintain relationships with family and the wider care team in a way that feels safe and consistent
Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver person-centred, therapeutic support tailored to the individual's needs, preferences and goals
  • Promote independence and meaningful choice in all aspects of daily life
  • Support with personal care where required, always maintaining dignity and respect
  • Support medication administration in line with policy
  • Support daily living tasks, cooking, cleaning, budgeting, appointments as opportunities to build skills and confidence, not just complete tasks
  • Actively encourage community access and social inclusion, tailored to the person's interests
  • Follow the support plan, risk assessment and positive behaviour support plan consistently
  • Recognise early signs of distress and respond using de-escalation techniques, minimising restrictive practice
  • Complete accurate, timely documentation and records
  • Work collaboratively with family members, healthcare professionals, and the wider multidisciplinary team
What We're Looking For
  • Experience supporting individuals with learning disabilities, autism, or behaviours of concern
  • Understanding of Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) and trauma-informed practice
  • Strong de-escalation, communication and observational skills
  • A calm, patient, non-reactive approach aand able to stay steady under pressure
  • Consistency and strong professional boundaries; this person benefits from predictability
  • Experience with personal care where required
  • A genuine belief in the person's right to make their own choices and live as independently as possible
What We Offer
  • Paid induction and training, including PBS-specific training for this role
  • Funded Health & Social Care Diplomas (Level 2-5)
  • Blue Light Card discounts
  • Employee Assistance Programme (EAP)
  • Cycle to Work Scheme
  • Enhanced Family Leave
  • 28 Days Annual Leave
  • Career progression opportunities
