Job summary

A specialized support services provider in Torquay is seeking a Support Worker for an ongoing temporary position in a Homeless Shelter. The role requires strong communication skills, the ability to handle vulnerable adults, and experience in security or hospitality. The candidate must be prepared to work 12-hour shifts, either days or nights, at short notice. Responsibilities

  • Cover reception on a rota basis during days and nights.
  • Be the first point of contact for residents during the night.
  • Control access to the building and monitor CCTV.
  • Record incidents and update logs.
  • Deal with emergencies like fire and first aid.

Support Worker - On-Going Temporary On-Ongoing post. £14.83 per hour, weekly paid. To work in a Homeless Shelter in Torquay. Hours are either 07:45 – 20:15 or 19:45 – 08:15

To cover for sickness and holidays on an Ad-Hoc bases.

To be successful in this role you will need the following :
  • Good Communication skills
  • Ability to be Calm under pressure, with good listening skills
  • Ability to deal with vulnerable adults that may be stressed or have challenging behaviour
  • Courteous and respectful with all visitors
  • Able to work well in a team and independently
  • Understanding of safeguarding and confidentiality
  • Basic knowledge of mental health / substance misuse issues (desirable)
  • Experience with overnight security or hospitality (essential)
  • Willingness to work unsociable hours’ / shift patterns
  • Be available to work a 12-hour shift at short notice
As a Support Worker you will be responsible for :
  • Cover Reception on a rota basis Days / Nights
  • Be the first point of contact for residents during the night
  • Control access to the building and monitor CCTV
  • Carry out hourly health & safety checks
  • Record incidents, update logs, and complete reports
  • Deal with emergencies (fire, first aid, contacting services)
  • Undertake basic repairs / cleaning (e.g. changing light bulbs, clearing hazards)
  • Support residents by listening and offering reassurance overnight
  • Carry out room checks when required
  • Handle neighbour complaints or concerns appropriately
  • Ensure clear handover of information to day staff
  • Participate in supervision, training, and team meetings

An Enhanced DBS Check will be carried out if successful in your application
