The Role

As a Personal Care Assistant, you’ll be part of our client’s dedicated support team, providing essential care in their home. You’ll be employed by HomeCareDirect but will focus solely on supporting this client. This role is for 26-29 hours per week on a 2-week rota, in the Ross-on-Wye, Herefordshire area. Shift hours are either 9am to 3pm or 8pm to 10pm, and you should be available across all days to fit in with the other support workers in the package.

Responsibilities

Our client is a gentleman in his 50s who lives at home with his wife and two children. The ideal support worker must be proactive in supporting personal development, have a strong ethical value base, and have enthusiasm for assisting the client to live his life to the full and as independently as possible. You will be required to:

  • Support the client with medication, moving and handling with the aid of a hoist, and catheter care
  • Attend to the upkeep of the client’s hydro pool
  • Assist the client with appointments and social outings
  • Provide personal care and meal preparations

Due to the complex support needs, previous care experience is preferred.

You will be required to drive as part of this role, so you should be a driver aged 30+ years for insurance purposes. The client also has 3 family dogs, so you should be comfortable working around dogs and have no dog allergies.

Training & Support

We provide comprehensive, paid training (to CQC standards) before your start date, covering:

  • Full induction
  • Safeguarding Adults
  • First Aid / Food Hygiene / Health & Safety
  • Moving and Handling with Hoist
  • Pressure Area Care / Medication Administration
  • Catheter Care and Bladder Washout / Personal Care
  • Blood Pressure Monitoring / Cough Assist
  • Physio / Spinal Injury Awareness / Understanding Mental Health

All training must be completed prior to start date and is paid at minimum wage.

Who We’re Looking For
  • Driver with a full UK driving licence, aged over 30 years for insurance purposes
  • Previous care experience due to our client’s complex needs
  • Effective organisation and record keeping skills
  • Must be okay to work with dogs in the home
