A Supported Living Healthcare Provider in Plymouth is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Personal Support Worker. Qualifications

  • Previous experience in complex care, ideally with MND, tracheostomy management, and PEG.
  • Capability to drive a mobility vehicle with a full UK Driving Licence.
  • Understanding of Motor Neurone Disease and its communication and mobility effects.

Job description

We have a rewarding opportunity for compassionate and dedicated personal Support Worker to assist an individual living with Motor Neurone Disease (MND) in Plymouth. This role is focused on providing support in his day‑to‑day life, helping him maintain a sense of independence while ensuring he can continue to care for his children and engage in family life. As part of this, the support extends outside the home engaging in fun family activities such as soft play, parks and visiting the cinema. To make the most of trips out and about, we need people who are local to Plymouth and know the area, and who can drive a mobility vehicle (days only), holding a full UK Driving Licence. Enriching activities will be an important factor in your support, and you will bring a wonderfully empathetic approach to truly make a difference to this person’s life. You will also need to ideally bring previous experience with you in the following:

  • Complex Care ideally MND, tracheostomy management, ventilation and PEG
  • Provide assistance with communication via an eye‑gaze computer system.
  • Patience and understanding of MND and its effects on communication and mobility.

Responsibilities

What will your shift involve? In this role, you will be providing high‑quality care on a 2:1 basis, ensuring that the individual you support receives compassionate and attentive care tailored to their specific needs. Your responsibilities will include engaging with them in meaningful activities and taking them out in the community to promote their social interaction and well‑being. Additionally, you will support with household tasks to maintain a clean and organised living environment that fosters comfort and independence. Clear and confident communication in their preferred manner will be essential to building a strong and trusting relationship.
