Job summary

Mencap are seeking a 16hr Support Worker to cover Maternity leave in the East Durham/Peterlee area, supporting individuals living in their own homes. This 12-month fixed-term vacancy may become permanent.

You will help with daily tasks, promote independence, and accompany individuals to appointments and social activities. A driver is preferred for this role.

Qualifications

• A genuine passion for supporting others.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to build meaningful relationships.
• Flexibility to work various shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• A positive and empathetic attitude towards individuals with learning disabilities.

Responsibilities

• Assist with shopping and household chores.
• Support with cooking and meal planning.
• Plan and join day trips and social groups.
• Support independence and use of public transport.
• Attend medical appointments and accompany to appointments.
• Collect medications and manage prescriptions.

As a Support Worker, you'll have the opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of individuals with learning disabilities, supporting with things such as: shopping; household chores; cooking; day trips; attending social groups; increasing confidence on public transport; increasing and promoting independence; attending medical appointments; collecting medication.

A driver is preferred for this role.
