Overview
To provide a high level of assistance and stimulation to our young adult daughter who lives with her supportive family. To support in creating positive friendships and the development of social, independent and life skills too.
Responsibilities
- Knowledge and understanding of matters relating to a young person with additional support/care needs.
- A commitment to a service which provides support to vulnerable person, and which is respectful and according to her wishes.
- To facilitate and support her in decision making, promoting choice, involvement and control.
- Ensure needs are met through planning and reviewing.
- Support participation in social, leisure, educational opportunities with the local community and take her to Bingo or karaoke.
- Interact and participate with her development of self-help skills, supporting her to reach her potential for independence.
- Provide stimulating play opportunities to encourage her to develop and express themselves through activities such as taking her to Zumba classes.
- A willingness to travel to support the delivery of her needs if requested.
- When required, to take an active role in leading activities.
- To report any problems/difficulties to mum.
- To maintain confidentiality and to ensure that professional boundaries are observed when working with the individual and her family using the Personal Assistant’s Code of Conduct as a guideline.
- Encourage self-advocacy whenever possible and help her attempts to communicate her wishes and desires.
- If needs be, and if our daughter is unable to articulate for herself, then in a sensitive and reassuring way be prepared to speak up for her, promoting her known views and preferences.
- Flexible and innovative approach to working.
- Significant proven experience of working with young people.
- Knowledge of the dynamics and impact of supporting a young people with additional needs.
- An understanding of health and safety requirements in providing support.
- Evidence of the ability to build and develop supportive relationships with children and maintaining professional boundaries.
- Understanding of and willingness to undertake training.
- Ability to build effective relationships, showing sensitivity for others’ viewpoints and valuing diversity.
- Evidence of the ability to communicate clearly and concisely, including the ability to listen actively and match communication to the needs of the individual.
- Evidence of the ability to take responsibility for own actions and behavior being able to reflect on previous experiences to improve own practice.
- Evidence of the ability to be calm and resilient whilst under pressure and to remain optimistic and persistent.
- Understanding the importance of seeking guidance and support when required.
- Car driver with class 1 business insurance on your vehicle.
- A DBS check will be required and arranged by us.
Working hours
4 hours a week
Times between 5-9pm anyday (except for Wednesdays)
