Job description
Overview

We are looking for compassionate and caring support workers to join a small team of dedicated all female support staff who provide high quality, 24/7 care and support for a young man in his twenties. We are unable to offer contracts that require sponsorship. The applicant must have a right to work in the UK.

Duties
  • The support workers role is to help the young man to improve his social skills, stimulate his mind and aid his development in all aspects of his life.
  • Your duties will include supporting the young man in all aspects of those work and volunteering activities, which currently centre around animal activities such as volunteering at animal facilities, animal hospitals and animal sanctuaries.
  • Support workers would be expected to get involved in the activity themselves to help motivate the young man and maintain his interest in the activity. Many of the activities will be of physical and outdoor nature, which take place throughout the year and, potentially, in all weathers.
  • As the activities are to a large degree animal related and in the outdoors an up to date tetanus is advisable and actually required for certain activities.
  • There is also time for leisure activities and so support workers would be expected to provide companionship and participation in those activities too. These activities could take place during the day time, evening or weekend so there may be the opportunity for an extended day from time to time.
  • Support care workers will monitor progress in all areas and aspects of the care given using the daily recording methods. Training regarding the record keeping will be given.
  • Within the home, support workers will assist with, to varying degrees, food preparation, cooking, shopping, menu planning, cleaning and liaising with the landlord regarding repairs and maintenance.
Skills and Requirements
  • The applicant must have experience of working with vulnerable adults with a learning disability and have had some training and/or qualifications in social care.
  • Codes of professional conduct are very important when working with vulnerable adults and so a high degree of professionalism and personal integrity is expected.
  • The applicant will need to have a current DBS.
  • Experience and/or qualifications of working with adults with learning difficulties and autism is highly desirable.
  • Where the applicant can demonstrate a willingness to develop their experience and skills there could be a possibility of apprenticeship or further training for a candidate that may not have all of the necessary qualifications or experience but who can demonstrate other qualities that are required of a support worker.
  • It is important that any applicant can work within a small team and provide constructive support to other members of the team as required.
  • The applicant should be able to cook basic food, understand health and safety matters around food storage and preparation and preferably have had some training in this area.
  • Applicants must be able to drive and have a clean licence. The young man has a car available for workers to use for his activities.
  • The applicant will need to communicate verbally with the young man and so need to be able to speak excellent English.
  • As the role requires keeping written records the applicant needs to have the ability to write simple records using a computer based system.
Hours and Pay

The hours are flexible and the pay is above minimum wage.
