Job description
Overview

Bank/ Weekend Support Workers Wanted. I am 21 years old and looking for a support worker to join my small team of support workers. I undertake a range of activities at home and in the community. I adore all things sport related, and I also love music and computer games. I’d love my support worker to enjoy these things too. I have cerebral palsy and use a wheelchair full time and need help with all aspects of personal care and daily living activities.

What I need help with

I need assistance to eat and drink as my upper limb function is limited. I have a PEG for top up feeding. I love to chat and interact, but my cerebral palsy affects my speech patterns, so you sometimes have to help me be understood. I have a communication aid which I use for some activities but I mostly prefer to use my verbal speech. I have a fully adapted and equipped property and a wheelchair accessible vehicle. I need you to help me access desired activities at home and in the community. Some activities include taking part in local groups, watching sports, comedy or music events, and doing therapy and social and leisure activities.

Team and hours

I have a team of one team leader, one senior support worker, and 3 further support workers who you will work alongside. I am currently looking to increase my care team to ensure I have consistent weekend cover and cover for annual and sick leave of existing team members. Job shares can be considered. I may have more hours to offer and there will be opportunity for extra weekday work but this is negotiable and flexible.

Responsibilities
  • Provide support with personal care and daily living activities, including feeding assistance as required.
  • Assist with accessing activities at home and in the community and supporting participation in local groups, sports events, comedy or music events, therapy and social/leisure activities.
  • Support the client to communicate effectively, coordinating with their communication tools as needed.
  • Promote a safe and inclusive environment in home and community settings.
  • Coordinate with the existing care team to ensure consistency and coverage.
Qualifications and requirements
  • You need to have worked with people like me before and have a full driving licence.
  • Fully enhanced DBS check required; you will also need to register with the DBS Update Service.
Compensation and working arrangements
  • £16.00 per hour weekdays depending on experience.
  • £17.50 per hour weekends.
  • £12.21 per hour sleeping night shifts.
