A national charity in Birkenhead is seeking Support Workers to provide essential support to individuals with disabilities. You will help them lead independent lives by assisting with daily activities and supporting their participation in social activities. No previous care experience is needed, but a caring attitude and a commitment to training are essential. The organization offers competitive pay, benefits, and a commitment to equality and diversity in the workplace.
We always aim to have a positive impact on the day‑to‑day life of the people who draw on our support. Your day as a Support Worker will often start with helping them get ready in the morning, including having a shower or bath, using the bathroom and getting dressed. From here, every day is different. You may be supporting them whilst they go shopping, keep fit, go to their weekly clubs and activities, or simply keeping them company whilst they stay in and watch their favourite TV shows. You may also need to support them to take medication and attend medical appointments, but full training will be provided. As you've probably worked out these individuals are full of life and fun to be with, could you support them to lead lives that make sense to them? We are hoping that you can bring new ideas and introduce us to more things that we can do.
You will be providing invaluable support to 10 people aged between 25-70 who have either a physical or learning disability, and/or autism. Everyone who draws on our support has their own flat at the service which gives them the freedom to live their own lives. You will be supporting everyone, helping them gain their independence and supporting them to learn new life skills. Due to the needs of the people we support, holding a manual UK driving licence is desirable as your ability to drive unlocks the opportunities for people to do the things they really enjoy! However this is not essential as the service has access to many forms of public transport. We provide support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and so the ability to work bank holidays and weekends is desirable. You will be working on a shift pattern which may include regular early morning starts (7am) and late evening finishes (10pm). Therefore, we need you to be flexible with your availability, but we do always try and be fair when distributing shifts.
We are looking for a full‑time / part‑time Support Worker who has great attention to detail, is resilient and truly wants to make a difference in people’s lives. You don’t have to have any past care experience but a kind, caring, creative and patient attitude is a must. We will train you on all the formal key skills you will need in terms of emergency first aid, safeguarding and giving medication. We hold a number of full and half‑day training courses (9am‑4pm) that you will be expected to attend whilst you are working with MacIntyre, but don’t worry, you will be given plenty of notice. We work with successful candidates to complete appropriate checks prior to joining. MacIntyre is committed to promoting equality, encouraging diversity and embracing inclusion among our workforce.
MacIntyre is a national charity which supports over 1,200 people with a learning disability and/or autism. We were founded in 1966 by the visionary parent of a child with disabilities and have been growing steadily ever since. We celebrate and develop everyone’s unique gifts, talents and contributions. MacIntyre safeguards and promotes the welfare of the children, young people and adults we support.
