Job summary

Comhairle nan Eilean Siar invites applications for a Support for Learning Assistant at Sir E Scott. The post is 28.5 hours per week during term time, fixed term to 22 December 2026, salary £18,000 - £18,763 per annum including £1,943 Distant Islands Allowance.

The successful candidate will support children and young people with ASN, assist teachers with education and welfare needs, supervise playtimes, and help embed the GIRFEC approach within our inclusive school environment.

Qualifications

• Experience of working with children, whether as a parent, volunteer or professional.
• Understanding of basic needs of children and ability to work well in a team.
• Patient, cheerful personality with a flexible, open, caring approach.
• PVG scheme membership is a legal requirement for this regulated role with children.

The post holder will be required to provide support for children and young people with additional support needs (ASN). Duties will include assisting teaching staff to meet education, personal care and welfare needs; undertaking playground/lunchtime supervision; supporting the inclusion of all pupils in the settings; supporting health and well-being and follow the Getting It Right for Every Child (GIRFEC) approach.

You must have: experience of working with children, as a parent or in a voluntary or professional capacity; an understanding of the basic needs of children; the ability to co-operate with others and work effectively as a member of a team; a patient, cheerful personality with a flexible, open and caring approach.

This post is subject to membership of the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme as a legal requirement of a regulated role with Children ( Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme - mygov.scot ).

Interviews will be conducted in person, providing candidates with the chance to personally meet the team and experience our work environment.

Salary for the above post is inclusive of Distant Islands Allowance. Appointment to the post will be on the first point of the grade.
