We are currently seeking a strategic and results-driven Supply Chain / Procurement Manager to oversee the procurement and logistics operations within our hospital, ensuring optimal stock levels, cost-efficiency, and regulatory compliance.

Job Summary

Reporting to the Hospital Director, the Supply Chain Manager will lead and manage all procurement activities, supplier relationships, and inventory management processes to ensure the seamless availability of medical supplies, pharmaceuticals, equipment, and services. You will play a vital role in supporting both clinical and non-clinical departments by delivering cost-effective, timely, and high-quality procurement solutions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement the hospital’s procurement and supply chain strategy aligned with operational and clinical needs.
  • Source, negotiate, and manage contracts with suppliers to achieve cost savings while maintaining quality standards.
  • Monitor inventory levels and forecast demand to prevent shortages or overstocking of critical supplies.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant regulatory requirements, including MHRA, CQC, and applicable UK procurement laws.
  • Manage the end-to-end procurement cycle including requisitions, purchase orders, delivery tracking, and invoice reconciliation.
  • Collaborate with clinical leads and department heads to assess supply needs and performance.
  • Lead supplier performance reviews, audits, and risk assessments.
  • Utilise procurement and inventory management systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, or similar platforms).
  • Drive continuous improvement, sustainability, and cost-efficiency initiatives.
  • Supervise procurement officers, buyers, and stockroom staff where applicable.
  • Maintain accurate records and provide reports on procurement performance, KPIs, and budgets.

Person Specification:

  • Proven experience in a procurement or supply chain management role, preferably within a healthcare or hospital setting.
  • Strong knowledge of purchasing processes, contract negotiation, and supplier management.
  • Excellent analytical, organisational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Familiarity with procurement and inventory software systems.
  • Understanding of NHS and private sector procurement practices (including within private healthcare settings).
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to lead and influence stakeholders at all levels.
Desirable
  • CIPS (Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply) qualification or working towards it.
  • Knowledge of medical supply chain compliance and regulations.
  • Experience with just-in-time or lean inventory systems.
  • Degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
