Job Description:

We are a market leading manufacturer of commercial window shading and blinds looking for a senior buyer to join our expanding procurement team at our manufacturing site in Wickford, Essex.

The Supply Chain Manager plays a pivotal role within the procurement function, guiding the Procurement Manager and Directors toward informed strategic and operational decisions through the provision of accurate data and sound commercial insight.

In this role, you will oversee the procurement of materials, goods, and services, ensuring the optimisation of cost, cash flow, quality, and service levels. You will drive added value through strategic sourcing, value engineering, innovation, and proactive risk management, in collaboration with the buying team.

Responsibilities:
1. Procurement Planning:
  • Forecast levels of demand for services and products
  • Conduct market research to identify suitable suppliers and products in line with Yewdale's strategic goals
  • Analyse current and future cost trends to inform procurement decisions.
  • Manage procurement of materials using MRP and forecasting tools.
  • Oversee inventory levels and stock control.
  • Provide cover and support to the Procurement Manager as needed.
  • Liaise with freight forwarders to ensure full visibility of the supply chain and secure cost-effective, timely shipments through competitive tendering.
2. Procurement Operations:
  • Support daily procurement activities to ensure delivery of team KPIs.
  • Manage supplier performance through KPIs, SLAs, and scorecards.
  • Build and maintain strong supplier relationships that align with strategic objectives.
  • Attend supplier meetings, trade shows, and industry events both in the UK and internationally.
  • Maintain accurate supplier and product data records.
3. Procurement Strategy:
  • Support the development and implementation of procurement strategies aligned with company goals and business plans.
  • Develop cost-saving and supplier performance initiatives, ensuring targets are met or exceeded.
  • Lead supplier performance reviews using scorecards and drive improvements with key suppliers.
  • Analyse procurement data and prepare reports on expenditure and savings.
  • Optimise inventory in line with customer demand and strategic objectives.
  • Identify long-term value opportunities through strategic sourcing.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to create compelling business cases for change.
4. Risk Management:
  • Identify procurement risks and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Manage supply chain vulnerabilities through regular risk assessments and mitigation planning.
  • Lead ongoing supplier performance and relationship management to reduce supply chain risks.
  • Monitor industry trends and developments to proactively manage external risks.
  • Ensure compliance with ethical sourcing practices and contribute to the company’s carbon reduction goals.
5. Team Support and leadership:
  • Support, mentor, and motivate buyers in the Procurement Team.
  • Ensure team members are aligned with and working toward relevant KPIs and performance objectives.
6. Systems and Technology:
  • Support the execution of the company’s digital transformation initiatives.
  • Ensure procurement systems and data are accurate and up to date.
  • Leverage appropriate technologies to streamline processes and drive continuous improvement.
  • Stay informed about emerging technologies and apply them to enhance procurement efficiency.
The applicant will need to:
  • Deep knowledge of inventory and supply chain management
  • Experience of working in a manufacturing environment.
  • CIPS qualified or working towards
  • Proven experience as a Senior member of a Procurement Team
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal abilities
  • Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment
  • Experience of negotiating with third parties, with an understanding of contract law
  • Effective and up‑to‑date understanding of the external supply markets, with knowledge and awareness of emerging trends, opportunities, and risks within your category field
